Hi! I'm new to the forum having just "inherited" my wife's 2002 ST. She got tired of filling it up and took my vehicle in self defense. I don't mind the truck at all, but wonder if there's a way to reprogram it so that all the door locks open when the ignition is cut off, or when you press the remote once? I get caught trying to get stuff out of the back seat all the time and finding the doors still locked or have passengers back there who cannot get out because the locks don't automatically open. Got to be a way around this. Thanks!

This is out of the manual for my 2005 ST.

1. get in with key in ignition close all doors.
2. ensure the key is in the off position
3. Note: steps 4-8 must be carried out within 30 seconds. Turn the key to on.
4. press the power unlock control 3 times.
5. turn the key to the off position.
6. press the power unlock button 3 times.
7. turn the key to the on position.
8. ensure the vehicles horn chirps. This indicate the feature is in an enable/disable mode and ready to accept program changes.
9. press the power unlock button once, then the power lock button once.
10. ensure that the horn chirps once; there should be ine horn chirp, indicating the autolock feature has been deactivated. If one horn chirp is heard, followed by a longer sound of the horn, the autolock feature has been reactivated.
11. turn the key to the off position, or wait 2 minutes in order to exit the enable/disable mode.
12. exit the vehicle and ensure the horn chirps once to indicate that a feature has been changed and the autolock feature has been toggled.

Hopefully this works!! good luck!

This doesn't seem to work on a Ranger XLT

Anyone ever get this to work on a Ranger. Have been trying to program similarly with my powerlock system and have had no luck. I get all the way to the horn chirp indicating the RAP module is activated and ready to receive the command, but nothing happens after that.

thanks.

Reprogram Locks

I don't know about the Ranger, this was out of my 2005 ST owners manual. You may want to contact your local Ford Dealer or see if you can find the manual online in *.pdf form.

Hope this works on 2002 ST's

Holy annoying lock sequence, Batman!!
I HATE the way Ford sets up the door lock feature. Just like the original post, I always forget to hit the unlock twice and have to reach around for either the key fob or the drivers door control to hit unlock again.

....goin' out to the garage now to try the steps shown for `05's. Will post news of my results later!

if this works, im going to do it to mine tomrrow as well as my dads

Yep, my`02 ST responds to all of the instructions listed in the original post. Horn chirps, etc. Thing is.. now if you manually lock the doors you still have to hit the unlock twice to get all doors open. That's what I'm really after- some way to get all doors to lock/unlock with one command from either the central control or key fob.

so now when you shut the ignition off, all the doors unlock?

did this today to my dads 04 and it worked great

Really!? The only part I missed is in step #12 of the instructions. There was no audible indication (no chirp or horn ) when I opened the door after completing the last step. But I'm sure I did toggle the auto lock setting to "off". I went through the whole thing 3x's- once disable, second re-enable, third disable again.

It seems now that the only thing different is the doors don't automatically lock on drive off. Still have to hit unlock (on the fob)twice to get all doors open.

Does your `04 ST now unlock all doors at key off? If so, I surmise that between `02 and `04 Ford reprogrammed the feature to allow it do be more flexible.

the doors dont lock at all once you start to drive off like they used to do

Ditto that

I have to press twice to unlock all doors and what I wanted the locks to do was to unlock after you PARK the vehicle or get the key out. Maybe someone else has more info. I'll check my manual again. Will update if I find something else.

so now when you shut the ignition off, all the doors unlock?

That would be a big fat NO...at least not in my vehicle. What it did was allow the doors to auto lock when you start driving after placing vehicle in DRIVE.

Ford really doesn't allow many options for auto lock. Apparently you can only deselect auto lock on drive off. I want to be able to open all locks with one unlock command from the FOB.-- No can do. Least not on my `02 Sport Trac. I've resorted to just disabling auto lock, but I don't have any young family members around, so it's not a safety issue for me. I wouldn't do it if I had small children.

I think the idea is a security thing, if someone is following you to your car or pops up on the other side, then you don't want your only choice to be unlocking ALL the doors at once. Hello Mr. Carjacker.
Whenever I get a new vehicle I disable as much automatic crap as I can.

THANK YOU starrbrew! That "feature" has been annoying the hell out of me since I've owned my 2000 Explorer. Those steps have disabled the automatic locking, and I'm no longer going back to the hatch only to find it locked after I've parked.
