Dk Exp Hello New Explorer owner here...

Hello all, I am from Georgia and I just received an 1997 Ford Explorer 2-Door XLT with control trac AWD. So far I am trying to get the hang of it. (my first vehicle) However, I am looking forward to actually be able to understand how my vehicle works and all it's nuances.

My 96 Sport 4x4

Name is Monk, retired Army aviator, have owned my first Ford since 98. She's gettin old (118K) and tired like me, but I still enjoy driving her. A little history:

Bought her used in 98, think it was a lease before I got her.
Have done limited towing of a 19' Bass boat.
Replaced all front end suspension parts twice (ouch), what does lifetime lubrication mean FOMOCO?

My current issues are dashboard/steering wheel lights are fading fast.
When I engage the four wheel switch for snow conditions, the dashboard light begins blinking after a few minutes of operation, and four wheel is questionable.

Don't really want to bury the old lady just yet, any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi all, I just bought an '08 Explorer Limited. So far I love it, has all the bells and whistles (just picked up an extended warranty on it because of all those bells and whistles too!). I had an '05 Expedition that I traded in for this. The Explorer doesn't plow thru the snow quite like the Expedition, but the heated seats are a plus! I do have a technical question on the OEM remote start on the Explorer, once I find the right forum for it!

Thanks!
Paula

Hello. My name is Corina, I'm from Romania, I love older cars (my oldest is a 1978 W116 Mercedes). Some months ago I bought a Ford Explorer XLT, 4 doors, 1992. I love my car, and that's why I want to know how to use it successfully.

Hello,new to posting

Ive been a lurker for a while now(there is enough info here to keep me occupied for months, soooo much info here)I tried to find a post with my problem already delt with and no luck-here is my problem

A "mechanic" friend of a friend swapped a new transmission into my 1993 Mazda Navajo, all is great, except and I will quote him "I left your VSS layin in the driveway,I couldnt find it,so I just stuck your speedo cable in the hole without it,you can get them at Autozone for like 15 bucks"and that was that.----fast forward-want my cruise control back so I went to replace the VSS and the speedo cable is "stuck" in the transmission and pulling on it with my hands wont get it out,i'm no stranger to workin on cars and trucks. My questions are has the speedo "fused" to the gearing inside? Can I just force it out without trashing my speedo cable, maybe "pry" or pop it out?.sorry for the long post and if its not in the right place.

Just joined and doing research on 2011 Explorers. Need to replace wife's minivan and have been looking at Flex but she would like to sit up higher so thought we'd check out the new models. Can't wait for them to actually show up in person.

Cool A Day in the life of an Explorer lover...

Hey, just wanted to introduce myself

my first car was 2003 blue ford explorer v6, base model (i can never rember if it is a xlt, or xls) i loved that car, never a single problem, easy to work on, drove it for 50,000 miles

Then, unfortunately, i crashed... i was taking a shortcut to work down a gravel road, and slid sideways down into a ditch and into a tree and a bush of poison ivy... pulled the car out of the ditch, the thing was nearly totaled. front right fender destroyed, alignment screwed window gone, door non functional. window track destroyed. it was a mess to say the least

so i pulled it out of the ditch. and started working. fixed the door, window, mirror and alignment for under $200 and sold the truck as is for 3 grand... "not bad" i said to myself. two days later, i was the proud owner of a 2003, blue, ford explorer, v6. but this one had a ton more features. power seats, leather steering wheel, automatic lights, third row seating, ect.

i loved my old one so much, i knew i was going to love this one even more, but wanted to fix a few things. first change was a new Exsonic in dash dvd player. Then the unfortunate happened again... do to a Minor in Possession of Alcohol charge, i lost my license. since then, i've been doing a ton of work on it. first thing, a sub, and instead of losing the third row seating by putting it in the trunk, i removed the middle row's center seat and mounted two 10 inch subs where the seat used to be, and powered it with a alpine 500 watt amp. sounded great and i can still seat six. or drop all the seats, put a cover over the subs, and voila!!! Cargo space!!! total cost:$250 used on craigslist.

after that, new speakers went in, pioneer KFC's, nothing too special.
now working on led lighting in the floor and on the doors.

and now here we are, present day...

i was very impressed with the amount of information that is available on this site... considering the brown wire mod, and the telescoping steering wheel mod... but haven't started those projects yet...

some of the other things i want to do are bull bars with running lights, halo style headlights and foglights, window tints, and rims... but thats a ways down the road...

so what do you guys think???

Hi. Anyone knows how to search for a hub (the round thing in the middle of the wheel) that is missing from my right front wheel (that's why my 4x4 command doesn't work)? How is it called in English and where do you advise me to shop for it at decent prices?
