Whats up guys. Names Aaron
just got a black 2000 explorer sport
I was just interested in taking as good care of it as I can ( black bettey be her name and she is my pride).
Basic knowledge like whats the best wash wax to use, how much a paint job SHOULD cost in NYC for an EX sport, Where to get body kits, how big to go with tires things like that would be awesome to know. And just get to know my fellow EXer's.

I found this forum searching the internet and looking for some infos about the explorer I'm going to buy in a few days. Lots and lots of pages, images and so on, but this board is the one that made me sure of 2 things:
1.become a member
2.buy the explorer!

So, to introduce myself. I live in northern Italy, I don't know if there are other Italians on this board or if anyone has been to my country, anyway my town is a small one near the Swiss border. Lots of mountains around and a lake.
American cars, just like country music and American football or baseball, are my daily bread, but it's very very difficult to find such things in my coyntry, or even people to talk about them here.
Anyway, a few weeks ago it was time to change my car, after 190000km in 5 years I thought to sell my mazda3. And now, after this mazda3, mazda2, opel corsa and opel kadett, I think it's time to driva a real American car. Some kind of dream, once in a lifetime.
I found a 1996 Explorer Limited, 4.0 V6, with some 150k miles on it. The owner seems to be a guy that really treated the car as a son, and is forced to sell it due to family issues.
There aren't many explorers in Italy, most of them are in bad condition even if they seems perfect. Mileage is not the true, you won't get infos about maintenance and the history of the vehicle. I hope this time all the data are true, they told me tires, brakes, AC and other minor parts have been changed, and also transmission is brand new. I've seen it, and decided to buy for about $7000. You may say I'm a fool, but this is the medium price for those cars in my country. A brand new explorer costs more than $80000!
Now, I'm waiting for my car. The owner wants to fix everything before giving it to me, and I really appreciate this even if I have to live without a car for a couple of weeks.
This will be the one and only 1996 explorer limited in my area, and I'm proud of this. Wish this car all the best, and all the best to all the people who will appreciate the soul and spirit of this piece of history.

Forgive me for this long intro...
Regards to all!

Beppe

Hello,
Just got a 2001 explorer xls 4.0 sohc. Im new to explorers (and Fords) but used to do professional body work and can find my way around an engine well enough. Mostly stock (with an Ultragauge, and a grill/bumper guard) for now, but I have lots of plans in mind, and lurking the forums has been inspiring so far. Hoping to boost the mileage first, and maybe think about a mild lift eventually. Looking forward to learning lots more from you all.

Serious Explorer's Explorer

Greetings from wet and rainy Oregon!

Just finished a 15k mile adventure from WA to Colorado Springs and then north through BC/Yukon Terr/AK this past fall and winter. Never a problem even in -35 -40F (or C as if it matters at that point)...We braved both the Dalton and Dempster solo in Oct and Nov north to the arctic and I was never concerned that I be stranded. For the most part, just camped inside...folks though me nuts...I thought I could do that forever!

Towed a 7000 GVWR car hauler with a Nissan Pathfinder to Anchorage from Bellingham: NO PROBLEM: solid as a rock. To this day people think I'm telling a fish story...they just nod and grunt "uh-huh" 10-11 mpg; not bad.

She's got 148k well maintained miles on her. Bought it at 33k in Portland as a lease return. Its an early 97 so has the nice 5.0L. Its surprised more than one rice-grinder w/Folgers can exhausts. Stock V8 is a stock V8 does. Just no substitute for torque and ponies!

Oh...shes had her issues (AKA: Air-Ride Equipped ) but for the most part, and in spite of the hard work of building our home (trailer miles!) shes been great!

Always serviced on schedule and at the first hint of any problem.

Well as it would be with any beast at this age, she's in need of fix'n now and the first issue ('cept-n air-ride) is a cracked exhaust manifold and EGR tube...

I'll see you in that forum!

Boy; am I glad you're all here to help! Thanks!

Cheers

OSUChE (Go Beaves!!!)

Hey!
I came across this forum when looking up info for a Borg Warner 4405 Trans. Case in a '97 Explorer. Found the rebuild diary and was very impressed! Then researched a few other things as well. My wife and I bought the "97 Explorer from a family member for $500.00, Spent about $150.00 to get it road ready. The trans. case was the only major fix. We also own a 2000 Ranger that needs an engine swap which we are planning on doing soon. Glad I came across this forum. Very good stuff here!

Not sure how to input to the forum - this is my 1st attempt at being involved in a forum. I joined to get a little knowledge and support in maintaing my 06 Explorer. I've had 4 explorers since '93 and have loved every one of them. Up until now I've traded every 75 to 100k miles but with things the way they are I'm going to hang on to this baby for another few years.

My problem is finding a center console lid. One of the little fingers on the latch broke and Ford doesn't have a replacement for it - they want to sell the whole lid. From what I've gathered this is a common problem. I guess I wanted to see if anyone had an alternative soulution to spending $100 for a new lid.

Hello

Hi. Just joined today. Looking for information regarding my 99 EB being stuck in 4 low. Will look through the threads to see if anyone has ever encountered this and how I can fix it quickly.
