Man, I miss my V8 musclecar. It didn't have a great stereo, but 677 hp at the rear wheel....

Oh, and MST-just so you know, I'm sarcastic as hell. So I hope you didn't take any offense to the way my post was worded. Just that comparo between the 5.7L lighter weight muscle car and the 4L people hauler (but the Camaro would suck in the snow. A friend had same year Z28 in New England) had me scratching my head.

But as the vegetable juice cocktail ad goes, "I could've had a V8".

Guys you speak muscle car. if understand.

Hi all. Just purchased a 98 Explorer XLT. It has four doors and is two wheel drive. I stumbled across this site while looking for info on the 4.0 liter V6.(i know nothing about it) I'm new here so any tips, info or advice would be greatly appreciated. The body and interior are in excellent shape, but the 4.0 has a busted timing chain. I've been told by the person I bought it from and others I've talked to since, that I should replace the engine. Is this some kind of necessity, or can I get away with just changing the timing chain assemblies?

Well, this isn't the one with 677 hp, but I miss this one too. The car was mine, the woman wasn't. 78 Mustang King Cobra. Restored mostly, but was a driver, not a trailer queen. 74 block, and with the mods I estimated between 240-245 horses. Not bad for a car as light as a Pinto that originally arrived with 138 hp from a 302.

OK, and I miss my 2 wheel transports as well. Again, the hardware was mine, the software was not.

Hi all - Ron here from Pittsburgh. Nothing but Fords at my house. Joined here because I'm considering a DIY job replacing the rack and pinion in our family truckster - a 2001 Eddie Bauer Explorer 4x4. Found some good info on youtube, but figured I'd check around here as well. Lots of gremlins popping up on the Explorer lately, including fuses blowing on the power lock / power seat circut. Also, the radio LIGHTS don't work anymore - been that way a long time - unrelated to the lock/seat issue. Also have a front wheel bearing making a little noise, so maybe I'll look into that too. Anyway, hopefully I'll find some tips here.

Other Fords in the driveway are 2 '66 Mustangs - one is an all original rust-free GT coupe, and the other is a Shelby clone coupe with a built 5.0 with a T5 and a 9 inch rear, discs all around, and lots of Global West suspension goodies. Also have a '94 SVT Cobra with a 347 stroker and upgraded tranny and rear end, and a '94 F150 XLT serves as the winter workhorse.

Thanks for having me, and I'll see you on the boards!

Ron

I'm a new member here, have an 02 explorer xlt bought about 2 years ago and am looking forward to gaining some knowledge and getting to know the people.

One question though I have been wanting to do a 2006 front end conversion on my truck and just want to know if everything would fit without any serious type of modding involved.

Thanks. Great rides, and as noted, the hardware I claimed as my own. The software (the ladies) were a friend on the car and a model on the bike.

Baphomet - thanks for the warm welcome! This site is great! Tonight I had a little free time, so I headed down to my garage and started the steering rack removal. Had to call it quits now that the kids are in bed ( the air tools and BFH make a little too much noise ). Hopefully I'll finish getting the rack out tomorrow night. My garage isn't so big ( 3 cars if you squeeze-em in right ), but I'm lucky that Dad has a building where we can store a few toys. Both of my '66s spend the winter there with his '57 TBird and his '63 R2 4-speed Avanti. I'll find a place to post up some pics somewhere around here when I get a chance.
