New System Installed, Rattle is INSANECRAZY
Ok,
So I recently put a relatively awesome (i'll let y'all be the judges) system in my 2006 Explorer 4.0 V6 XLT. I have: A Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD double din headunit with USB and iPod connectors ran into the armrest Infinity Reference 6x8s in the front and back 8.5" Fold down LCD screen in the back Alpine 400W RMS mono amp 2x Rockford Fosgate 15" subs (hooked up together in mono) in a custom 3.5 cu ft box backup camera in the chrome license plate holder The sound quality is excellent on the inside (although I wish there was a way to mount components in the front....) But, from the outside with the hood closed, the rattle is ridiculous! I can literally watch the entire roof move up and down like someone is hitting it with a hammer. This rattle is so crazy that it seems to me like the type of thing that dynamat couldn't fix? What should/can I do? Thanks, Mark 2006 Explorer XLT 4.0 V6 Flowmaster 40-series with custom dual 3" pipes (yes, it fits, I just had to remove the spare) KKM intake many many many more mods to come (I've made a text file list with estimated costs calculated.... Anyone want to loan me $4750?) |

just my advice. turn the volume down. i love loud music as much as the next guy but that kind of volume will make you deaf. its a fact.
but if you don't want to. i don't think dynamat will eliminate the problem, maybe help it, but not all the way. only way to stop it would be bracing welded to the roof. but thats extensive interior modification. and most likely new paint as well. the kind of stuff you would do in an SPL competition car. but what else can you expect with dual 15" Rockford's __________________ -Matt To all those in uniform, past and present. Yea turn the volume down , I doubt that you have it so loud because you can't hear it.

I have 4 12's in my '92. It sounds real good inside but outside all you hear is the back glass hammering the hatch and the hatch hammering the body. My rear wiper pops out of its holder too
But its all worth it

I had put stick on insulation that goes on the bottom of doors under the interier pannels inside the explorer and my window was not that bad. The hatch on mine and roof would make all the noise. The dynamat will eliminate some of the roof noise but not all of it. Thicker the better. __________________ |

I'm guessing that "custom box" is sealed...nothing special. Same or even better results could be had with a single 15 inch sub.
Get some pics up |

"long or repeated exposure to sounds at or above 85 decibles can cause hearing loss."
National Institute on Deafness and other Comunication Disorders I'm not saying your wrong about the frequency. But I imagine he's turning up the volume for the WHOLE range. Not just the bass. And really, it's your hearing. Not something to take chances with. I'm only 21 and I can tell I have lost hearing sensitivity from listening to my radio and iPod. Which I do very loudly at times. Dispite my own warnings. __________________ -Matt To all those in uniform, past and present. Thank You.

Dynamat sucks, at least go with Raamat if you're going to go cheap. Otherwise, as jshak07 has said, Damplifier or Damp Pro are the best around.

how much power you have really doesnt mean much...the more power you have the less you gain exponentially.
In a perfect world you gain 3db by doubling your power. In reality on paper my setup running 2 amps at 0.66 strapped (0.33 ohm per amp) did a 155.2 but when i ran 4 amps at 0.33 strapped (0.167 per amp) theoretically quardrupling my power I only gained 2.2 db. And that gain was very significant |

But all in all if your bass is loud enough to hear outside of the car then its just to much. Theres no reason that someone couldnt contain the sound within the vehicle. Unless ofcourse they think that people in there homes or walking on the sidewalk somehow want to hear your music. lol
