CAN over the road, and water gps, ,

Okay , so i took the plunge and bought one of those windshield gps units,
but i looked all around at the various options and units,,
i made my decision to get a new Lowrance XOG, it is a compact unit with turn by turnm directions same as most , but also has the option of turning off the turn by turn and also using Navionics map cards.

first impressions , unit is nice size , big enuff screen to see, easy to use too, it programs just about the same as all of them do, you pick a city and a street number and name, and away you go,

i was amazed at the detail it gives,, and accuracy of the turn by turn directions ,
this unit also has the option to load a map of just about any lake from a Navionics map card , than it can also be used in a boat as a nav system with the lake contours, and rocks shown on the screen ,also there are topo maps available for off roading too ,

mounting is easy , just suction cup the mount to a window and turn on, and off you go, ,
it even came with a small disc to stick with the supplied 2 sided tape to the dash or wherever and have handy to you, ,

i really like the unit, and ease of operation,, , and recommend this unit to all thinking about buying one of these things,, very handy ,

Sounds WAY more usable than my TomTom One 3rd Edition. Where did you get it?

okay , after using it for a little while i like it even more than i did before, the directions are great , and accurate,, and the maps are very good,, i used it for atrip to the city of winnipeg and it worked great , i found all the places i needed with ease,, the touchscreen rocks,, , i did have to turn off the safety mode so i could enter info on the fly , but that was eaasy , menus are easy to use, , on screen buttons were good ,

It's weatherproof, but is it waterproof? In addition, how is its water navigation mode?

I've been looking for a low-priced GPS to mount to my kayak using the ram mount components. I like the Garmin Nuvi 500, but it's 3x as much. In addition, Lowrance is well-known in the aeronautics and marine industries, but I know very little of their consumer line.

it it not completely waterproof , as are none of the other units available,, but it is splashproof and it has good water tight covers for any of the ports , in water navigation mode it works the same any boat gps, with trail functions, and straight line navigation , and it also accepts all Navionics sd map cards available for almost all lakes and rivers .

this unit is just a merging of the marine gps , and a turn by turn street unit,, it does both,,

on your kayak i think it would be okay , it says it meets splashproof standards,

the battery lasts about 4 hours , but if you turn the backlight down , it lasts a bunch longer,,
