hi jack lift

the idea of a high jack lift is to lift the truck up and then push it and let the jack fall correct? i was wondering if this would damage anything on the truck

That one of the many things you can do with it.. But.. you can damage the truck doing that if the jack doesn't fall just right...

Here is a list of the safer things (where you stay in control of the jack). All still carry quite a bit of risk.. the high lift is a versitile but can be dangerous if you don't think ahead.. things to use it for are...
  • Break the bead from a tire (put base on tire, use weight of truck to break the bead)
  • come-along/winch. If you put a chain at each end you can pull your truck, abiet slowly
  • lift the truck so you can stack rocks under a tire
  • lift the truck so you can do a minor suspension repair.. i.e. replace a spring that popped out and put a chain on as a limiting strap
  • use the highlift handle as a cheater bar

there are many more uses.. and Yes I've used the lift/push method to get the truck move when I got it stuck but its not under control at that point and can be dangerous to you, or the trucks sheetmetal.

The hi lift acts as a ratchet, if you look at one the plate part that lifts actaully climbs the stand, so if your hooked the truck and the lift plate you can ratchet the handle and it will start to pull the truck forward like a winch.
Maybe not the best explanation, but hope it helped to picture it.

LOL yes it can damage the truck, but if you do it right and enough times at least the truck will be back on the trail!

Have done this many times, it is DANGEROUS

anything HI lift is dangerous, so use common sense and caution

also GLOVES
I almost lost my pinky due to hi lift slipping, gloves would have helped a great deal!!!

Yes, they can be dangerous. One of my Texas Demon4x4 buddies had his truck jacked up using his hi-lift on his rock sliders. So he had to have a door open to get the jack underneath the slider. He was changing from his offroad tires to his street tires. A procedure he had done many times. But this time the hi-lift jack slid on the slider(go figure) and pinned one of his fingers against his door. I had to grab his keys and run around to the other side to start his truck and get it moved to get his finger released from the hi-lift death grip.

was it his pinky?

if so I think they have a thing for pinkys

I was wheeling in the snow
got in over our heads, LOL
I had the truck jacked way up to dig out, and I was trying to jack it up one more notch, well the jack slipped down and the handle snagged my pinky when I tried to lift my hand out of there with lightning speed

nothing like 3500# of bronco slamming into your frozen pinky

snow looked like a murder scene, my GF at the time was like, "You okay?"
LOL I am like "oh this little thing? doesnt even hurt!" LOL
We are now married and I have a 1/4" thick scar on my pinky and limited mobility, it was to the bone
