how much lift do you think i would need to fit 26 inch rims? ive come across a set with tires.. 305 30 26.. yeah i know its stupid, dumb, retarded, pointless, etc... but i think it would be fun, any tips or pointers would be nice!

on a 4 wheel drive 31" 10.5" is the max u can run with out lift ext. on a 2 wheel drive i would think that would be a bit smaller. the rims u have (305 30 r26) convert to a 33" 12.0" so stock suspention will not work. plus the shear drivability of it would be unbarible
i rode in a mazda with 17" and 30 series tires and you could feel every pebble. but if u really want to then some lift will be needed.

p.s you should post a pic of the rims

I'm amazed that someone had 26s with a 5x4.5 bolt pattern. Any clue what they were on?
To fit a 33" tall tire you would need about 4" of lift.

for what it's worth, here is some 26s on a Land Cruiser on 33x13s

they were on an old pontiac car, it was a "donk" .. 85.. they are a "chevy/ford" bolt pattern... 26x9.5 ... not sure on the back spacing yet. hopefully will be test fitting them this week sometimes.. will definitely post pictures when i do tho.
i now work at a rim shop, so i have the resources necessary to modify my suspension.. lift, spacers, etc.. and actually the 30 profile is not too low since its soo wide of a tire.
today i mounted a set of 325/35/28's on a hummer.. and a set of 275/25/24's on a chevy 1500 pickup. those were like rubber bands!

im determined to make make them work, even if it means a rough ride, cutting and rolling fenders.. whatever.. its not going to be a daily driver for much longer so i think it would be a fun project.

Well, I would like it, just as much as this one.





26"S on an Expo, 6" lift. The kid that drove it told me it rode like a dream. Yeah right. Either way there ya go. I think it was a Superlift kit.

the rims on that pic right above me make the brakes on there look microscopic and my ass that thing rides like a dream haha

That thing has brakes? Where? I don't understand why everyone needs to have the largest rim? A lot of people by huge ass ugly rims so they can say the spent 10+ grand on them. I can understand bigger sound systems, going faster, better off-road, etc. But going for the biggest rim is nuts. If that explorer hit a pot hole, bye bye rim. I think it looks stupid. Now if you are going to take the time to tuck those rims, I might like it a little bit better. I think the perfect size for looks and FUNCTION would be 20's.(for an explorer/mountaineer) But if you want to be lifted up on some rubber bands with rims that bend when you back out of the driveway, then go for it. Not trying to hate or cause any drama, just stating my opinion because that's just one of the few car mods I have never understood.

20's are the biggest Id ever buy even if i had a f'in monster truck.

Those 26's would look OKAY if they were tucked in better, having a lifted explorer with wheels and tires like that....wow you might as well try driving an egg without breaking it

good luck stopping too with those little brakes man lol

Something to do with the rotational mass of a larger rim as opposed to a smaller rim. Even though they are both 33 inches tall, a 26" rim would have a "higher" rotational mass than say a 15" rim even though the overall diameter is 33". I am not a rocket scientist, but it was just something I read a long time back about bigger rims.

Because the wheel is much heavier than a tire. I'd be willing to bet that 26" wheel weighs close to what a 15" wheel with 33" tire combined weighs.

Ok, yes people may say it looks stupid or whatever, but its not your car, so who cares. Not trying to be a dick just saying, to each his own. The 26" rims I posted were 10k.

My 24"s weighed in at 100 lbs each when I had them shipped. (That was with the tire mounted) Im not sure what 15" rims weigh with 33" tires. I'm sure someone will.

Stopping power, yeah bigger brakes will help out a ton. My truck stops way faster with stock 15" rims no question about it. But, you have to adjust your driving a little.

Pot holes... I have hit enough to say this, they hurt. They dont do anything to the rim, or tire. I hit some construction with them on the interstate one time... Huge hole, 73 mph. No dents, no damage, it just hurt a little.

Just to compare, here is my truck on 20" rims.

This might be better, 15" stock, 20", 24"

I would NOT pay $10,000 dollars to make my daily driver HURT to drive, but hey I mean a TON of people love spending 10k on just rims alone, plus a lift kit just so the godd*mn things can fit

Those 20's do look really good on there though :p they need to be in the well a little bit better, if i had 20's id deff. have to have mine pretty tight in the wheel well...just a personal preference i guess

My 20's with tires weighted in at 58 or 68lbs each. It's raining today so I am not doing what I planned on doing other than cleaning my last rim and get them balanced

NutsOn20's-I'm with BrianDye, I prefer the 20" but I think it would have looked a little better lowered. I am more for performance(cornering, drag racing) than I am for looks. Like you said, to each his own.

Matt987-Sorry to be putting down this thread. If 26's and lift are your thing, then by all means go for it. If you can tuck those monsters like the little DUB cars you can buy at walmart, I think it would look better than lifted.
