Generally speaking.
Whatever is your main goal in working out is what you want to begin your workout. I loosing fat is your goal, begin with aerobic exercise. If building musle mass is you goal, begin with the largest musle group of that workout. Heavy weights 6-8 reps will best build muscle mass. Medium weight will tone and shape (12-20 reps). Upperbody order chest, back, shoulders and arms. If you work out every day split chest bicepts and then back shoulders tricepts. I would suggest for you do bench press, then finish with push ups for chest, for back do pull ups then a seated pull exercise, for shoulders do a military press. Dont forget legs, squats or leg press are fantastic exercises. Finish with leg extensions and leg curls. Vary you workout. If a muscle is sore, it need to rest. Proper nutrition and rest are just as important and exercise. Exercise tears muscle fibers down, nutrition and rest rebuild them stronger and larger. If you can afford it a trainer is a great way to prevent lost motion. |

My advice is to eat a lot less. Workout till your about to pass out. Push your body to it's limits. Stay really busy. Eat less.

As always the Meatman offers sage advice. My addition is to do whatever is fun and sustainable. Mix it up, do circuit workouts, do not do the same one over and over, have a look at Crossfit.com, I do not necessarily suggest you do their workouts as they are extreme. I hit the gym usually 5 days a week but do different things to keep it fun and not too hard on one specific part of the body. I am in my 40's so I do not want to hurt myself.
I do a circuit including a cardio component (make sure your heart rate is in your optimum zone), then a leg exercise, maybe start with an air squat and work up to weighted squats, an am exercise, a few pull-ups, a few pushups, then repeat. Do it like 5 times. That's a pretty good workout, wear a heart rate monitor that tracks the calories burned. You would do good to have someone show you the proper form. Keeps you from hurting yourself and do not go heavy too soon. I did squats with just a bar for weight for almost a month to make sure I was getting the form right. Take your time. Use music to motivate yourself, reward yourself with a protein shake smoothie after your workout. Be positive and enjoy yourself. I love working out. Oh, if you are into major life changes try P90X or something like that. I did that for a while just to mix it up. Good workouts. Just make sure you enjoy it or you wont keep it up. __________________ Ribs. I had ribs for lunch, that's why I'm doing this. List of useful TTB Threads |
