Ham Radio - CB - Trail Communications I have found that fourwheeling and ham radio go hand in hand. Post any questions or comments about the great hobby of amateur radio here. Of course CB'ers are welcome also. Ray, AE6H and Joe, N1LVN both moderate this forum.

Connecting CB radio to stereo?

I just installed an old radioshack cb that was lying around. I can barely hear it's internal speaker because its so small. I know I can get an external speaker for it, but I was wondering if I could somehow connect a jack from the cb radio to my aftermarket head unit and have it play through my car speakers. My head unit is a kenwood with an auxiliary input mode. Does anyone know about this? Thanks

I don't see why you can't run the speaker out on the CB to the aux in on your head unit. That's pretty much what it's for.

I doubt that is going to work. Its meant to hook up to an external speaker. It will probably be distorted if you run the speaker out to a line in.

In theory, you can take the speaker out jack on the CD and run it through a line level converter and then run it line level into your stereo...

One thing to keep in mind. We used to run a realistic (radio shack) CB in our X but found that due to its design it may not last. It is built with risers and if you take the truck off-road/washboard roads the solder on the risers will break. I had our repaired 3 times before we gave up and bought a Cobra 29.

Good point, KPT, but if you turn the volume down on the CB, and use the volume on the radio, it's probably OK. But let us know.
