Keyless entry pad code location

currently having this same problem!

How did yours start? It's freakin' annoying, I've been reduced to unlocking my door with a key like some sort of medieval dungeon-master!

I'm thinking the next step for me is finding this little box, and unplugging it then plugging it back in, hoping it is just some sort of connection problem. We'll see, I won't get a chance to try it until Friday ... after that, I'm not sure what could be wrong with it.

It randomly happened one day. My fobs both still worked but the keypad would only lock. I went and picked up another central security module(the black box that has the factory code printed on it) from an early build 02 from a junkyard, plugged it in and got my fobs linked to the new module, keypad did the same thing, just lock the truck, not unlock. I've since put my stock CSM back in. If unplugging and plugging back in dosent work for you I can sell you the Junkyard CSM I have for what I paid for it plus shipping. If it doesnt fix your truck ill refund you your money

I know we have talked about your keypad before. Did you ever discover if it is wired or the stick-on wireless type?

There's a wireless stick on type? It must be wired because the 7/8 & 9/0 'lock all doors' command still works, but not the code; it used to work fine. All the wireless FOBs have stopped working as well.

I'll try the connections and let you know if I want to try your module.
Thanks for the offer!

I stumbled upon this one day and that's how I found out about the wireless stick-on type:

ISSUE
Some vehicles may experience a concern with the keyless entry keypad. In order to properly diagnose the concern with the keyless entry keypad, it is important to identify whether the keypad is a factory installed style (wired) or a Genuine Ford Accessory (GFA) radio frequency (RF) style keypad.

ACTION
Use the following Service Procedure to identify GFA RF keypads and provide diagnostic service tips.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

IDENTIFICATION:

1. Production installed keyless entry keypads are mounted flush with the surface of the vehicle and are wired directly to the module controlling the vehicle's keyless entry system. This style keypad can be diagnosed using the appropriate Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-14.

2. Dealer installed GFA RF keypads are adhesive backed and protrude approximately 1/2" (13 mm) from the surface of the vehicle and there are no specific diagnostics available in the WSM (Figure 1).

NOTE THIS RF KEYPAD WAS ALSO US[D IN PRODUCTION ON 2004 F-SUPER DUTY VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO 12/3/2003. REFER TO WSM, SECTION 501-14 FOR RF KEYPAD DIAGNOSTICS FOR THESE VEHICLES.

GENUINE FORD ACCESSORY KEYPAD DIAGNOSTIC TIPS

1. The keypad operates similarly to a remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter and is programmed using a similar procedure.

Although the RF keypad is not specifically addressed in the WSM, the RKE transmitter programming portion of the WSM, Section 501-14 can be used as a guide

NOTE THE 7-8 AND 9-0 BUTTONS ON THE KEYPAD MUST BE PRESSED SIMULTANEOUSLY DURING THE PROCEDURE IN ORDER FOR THE KEYPAD TO BE RECOGNIZED AS AN ADDITIONAL REMOTE TRANSMITTER.

Since the GFA RF keypad is essentially another RKE transmitter, the transmitter diagnostic pinpoint tests in the vehicle's WSM can also be referenced even though the buttons serving the lock / unlock functions will differ

2. The GFA RF keypad is serviced as an assembly. The internal battery cannot be replaced separately.

3. If the master code or owner selectable code is lost or forgotten, the GFA RF keypad must be replaced. These codes are not stored in any vehicle module (with the exception of 2004 F-Super Duty vehicles produced prior to 12/3/2003).

4. The GFA RF keypad and all RKE transmitters (the number of transmitters allowable will vary by vehicle) must be reprogrammed together anytime the keypad is replaced, an RKE transmitter is replaced, or the module controlling the keyless entry system on the vehicle (GEM/SJB/VSM/DDM etc.) is replaced.

NOTE THERE IS AN EXCEPTION TO TIP 4 FOR VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH INTEGRATED KEYHEAD TRANSMITTERS (IKTs) (FUSION/MILAN/ZEPHYR). THE GFA RF KEYPADS FOR VEHICLES WITH IKTs MUST BE PROGRAMMED INDEPENDENTLY FROM THE IKTs. TURN THE IGNITION FROM "OFF" TO "RUN" 8 TIMES WITHIN 10 SECONDS, WITH THE 8TH TIME ENDING IN "RUN". THE DOOR LOCKS WILL CYCLE TO CONFIRM ENTERING PROGRAMMING MODE. PRESS THE 7-8 AND 9-0 BUTTON ON THE KEYPAD SIMULTANEOUSLY TO SEND A LOCK SIGNAL. TURN IGNITION TO OFF. THE LOCKS WILL CYCLE AGAIN TO INDICATE THE END OF THE PROGRAMMING MODE.

5. The keypad will normally illuminate for 5 seconds after one or more buttons are pressed, and the illumination will immediately turn off if the 7-8 and 9-0 buttons are pressed simultaneously (lock all doors). The keypad contains an optical sensor and will not illuminate under bright lighting conditions. The keypad may only illuminate briefly in colder temperatures in order to maximize the battery power available to transmit a lock/unlock signal. The temperature at which this occurs will vary depending upon the keypad battery age and condition. Both of these conditions are a normal function of the Power Save Mode and do not indicate a need to replace the keypad.

6. After entering the keypad code, the system may unlock the driver's door, lock it, then unlock it again, and the keypad will not even briefly illuminate. This is the Alert Mode and is an indication that battery power is very low and the keypad must be replaced.

7. The keypad also contains an Anti-scan feature. If the wrong code has been entered 7 times (35 consecutive button presses) the keypad is disabled for one minute and the keypad lamp will flash during this time.

Hi ive been following this thread and have tried to do the keyless entry but its not doing anything when you press the 7/8-9/0 buttons you get a click from the module. but the door locks dont lock. what happens if someone has already changed the code will the factory coade still work? and why is it when i press the lock button on the door or even on the remote i heaar a click from the module but no action at the locks themselves?

Keypad numbers may be covered.

I found the module but none of the numbers work. Any ideas?
Kenz57,
I just found my numbers on the module as pointed out, the only thing is the 5 digit keypad code numbers were covered by a yellow factory installed sticker (Programming Required). I was able to remove enough of the sticker with a razor knife and needle nose pliers to read the numbers with a flashlight and mirror through the sticker residue. I did have to guess at one number.

That's because they would rather charge you to have it reprogrammed then make their guy retrieve it manually.

My 2002 Mountaineer had the factory code on a sticker inside the jack cover trim, located behind the third seat, under the rear cargo hatch. Its the only series of 5 digits on that sticker.

Door code

I have an '02 XLT and the door code just stopped working. The lights (on the pad) come on but the code will not unlock the door(s). I can still push the bottom buttons to lock it, just won't unlock. Anyone have this problem and how do I fix it??

Welcome aboard!! :salute:

You could try reprogramming it. The instructions are in the owner's manual. If you don't have an owner's manual, Dead Link Removed.

Here you go:

Hope this helps out. :biggthump

BigRondo, tried it the way the Owner's Man says, but after reading it carefully this method is for adding a second code to the KES. Is there a way to reprogram the original code or do I need a new control box?

I have the exact same problem. I already tried a new central security module but no luck. I think replacing the keypad itself should fix it but I haven't tried thst yet because I can't use the keypad with my aftermarket alarm system.

If you need to know how to remove the old keypad let me know

I just did mine took me only 5 mins.I was able to take the black box out of the two clips that hold it in and bring out so i could see it better.I didn't even have to remove the seat belt..Mine were top right on the white sticker....mine is a 2002 Mountaineer

I found the numbers and tried all the above and other internet post on how to change, erase old personal numbers and still does nothing. The only thing I can do is lock the doors with holding the bottom two buttons......
