Ok.... it looks like finding a fan and mounting it is not that difficult... what really bothers me is the wiring... now it turns out that you need to think about your ac, thermostat...

let's say I get a nice fan, mount it, etc... will this supply everything else I need?

that should cover everything. the only problem I see is where would you mount the sensor. the ones I have used in the past have the sending unit attached to the radiator fins.

you will probably have to tee off the current temp sender to mount the new sending unit. maybe some else knows of a better place.

When we installed an e-fan into a friends f-150 we were looking at the same kind of controller.. A couple thing to consider. How many amps is the fan your going to install going to draw? In our case, we were expecting 50+ amps (Lincoln Mark VIII fan). Thats more draw than most of the controllers we saw could handle, and at the time I wasn't comfortable going to a PWM controller (I still see conflicting information on them with high amperage fans).

We decided to spend a little more and get a Dakota Digital PAC-2000.
The extra features the PAC-2000 has that we wanted were..
Fan start delay - It won't turn the fan on until 5 seconds after the engine is running. This helps keep the draw off the battery until the motor is up and running.
Fan stop delay - We have it set so if the fan is running when the truck is turned off that it will keep the fan running for 30 seconds (you can make it shorter or longer). This helps keep the heat soak down.


The way we have it hooked up, the fan will always start if it reaches 210F water temp.
If the a/c bypass switch is flipped the fan won't turn on with the a/c but it will still turn on when the temp reaches 210.
normally, turning on the a/c will turn on the fan. We added a bypass switch since you don't need the fan when your going down the freeway for the a/c.
