Ham Radio - CB - Trail Communications I have found that fourwheeling and ham radio go hand in hand. Post any questions or comments about the great hobby of amateur radio here. Of course CB'ers are welcome also. Ray, AE6H and Joe, N1LVN both moderate this forum.

this might be a bigger project than i thought....

i decided it was time to pull the install apart to remove all the "extras" (projects gone awry, things i've removed or upgraded, etc.) - since the inside of my jottodesk console was a total mess....

so far, it's pulled apart (sorry for the fuzzy pic - this is the second pic i've taken with the new phone)...

I think i should have started this project earlier... and I have a sneaking suspicion that this will be a multi evening project....

Wow, that's quite a mess! So, what was the before, and what is going to be the after?

well, got a bunch of cables stashed away out of sight (USB/VGA/power for the carputer)

score one for me.

caught my thumbnail on something when wrenching... folded it in half backwards...

score one for the truck.

found the fault in the ignition wiring for the carputer

score another one for me...

well, the vehicle portion of the console is almost put back together - i only have 4 screws left - the 4 that go in the bottom of the console tub...they aren't lining up right...

you want something to make your truck feel different, pull the console and drive around for a couple days...

then put it back in. it feels like a whole new truck.

now.... with any luck, i'll get those 4 screws in, and the passenger seat back in... then it's only a matter of dropping equipment in and making one or two short powerpole jumpers, and i'm done

pics to follow after this weekend, i hope -

seat in
console together
faceplates figured out, but not secured yet

still need to make some power jumpers - one of my cables is about 3" too short to connect the switched source to the load

even added a bracket for my phone, but i am missing about half of it.

no pics yet...

the D700 control head is now above the rearview mirror

the cosole is equipped...

but now my speaker situation needs help. I need 3 speakers, all with different characteristics. 2 of them need to hav e some punch - the scanner and D700.

1 needs to have some punch, but also needs to have decent frequency response (the HF rig). Trying to figure out if there's a way to get a motorola speaker or 2 in the truck....
