one more question the muffler shop told me that for my truck i can either get a 16" or 20" muffler. The stock muffler is 18" is it okay to get the 20" because i want it to be as quiet as possible with a little bit of grumble when i punch it.

Spence- I am suprised the MOD's haven't gotten on you about filling up these forums with several threads with the same questions. I have looked through a few and you have gotten perfect answers, yet you are still unsure? I am not trying to talk you down or anything, just stay in the same thread with the same questions.

I take it you want to make your Ex more of a "blingy" street cruiser as opposed to a "muscle" SUV. So if anything, just put the stock muffler back on, a nice chrome tip(I think you already did that) and be happy. If you want some performance, just do a CAI, TUNER and UDP's. Hope this helps a little.

The part in the picture is your resonator.

I'd say cut the thing open and find out. If it is the resonator, I'd love to see what the inside looks like!

The 22" magnaflow is going to be quieter than the 14". Depending on how big your stock resonator is, it might still be quieter with just the 22".

so that means right now im running 2 mufflers and its loud i though it would be quiet with 2 mufflers. I'm going to get the magnaflow cat-back system which deletes the resonator and only has a 22" muffler. But for right now will running 2 muffler like how i am now do any damage or anything.

spencer r u going to get a quieter exhaust if u want a quieter exhaust get the 70 series flowmaster those are supposed to be quiet. Previous owners of my sport had them on my explorer and it sounded to quiet for me i didnt like it. I wanted my explorer to sound loud and deep so i got the 40 series.

Leave the resonator, add a 70 series flowmaster and enjoy the quiet rumble. If it's still to loud, then sell the ex and buy an electric car.

I am positive this thread will never end..............

The picture posted is your muffler. If the 4th gen exhaust is anything like a 3rd gen, when the exhaust meets into a Y after leaving the manifolds, there should be a small "bullet" style muffler(actually the resonator) If I remember correct, my resonator was the size of a football? Muffler was the size of a pillow. I really hope that this will help you.
