does anyone have an old head gasket that they can measure the compressed thickness of it.also the diameter of the piston bore hole. im using felpro so if you have that even better!!im trying to figure out the compression of my motor and everyone is telling me that it should be 10:1 but when i entered all my numbers im coming up with 9.049:1.but the old head gasket was not an felpro that i took the measurement from and i dont have any other gasket laying around

:help: anyone?

I'll take a look tonight.. There is a chance that an old head gasket is lying with the old heads on a shelf (not sure why I'm keeping them, all 3 heads on the shelf are cracked)..

As for the piston bore, do you need "exact" or can you go by the books bore/stroke #'s? if you need exact I have my old motor sitting without the heads on it and I can try to get it measured (I "think" my calipers will open that far).

i know what my piston bore is but need to know what the piston bore is in the gasket.you know like the hole in the gasket is bigger than the hole in the block.somebody said that the piston might come up past the deck of the block so that might be where my numbers are off but i cant remember if it does or not,i dont think it does:dunno:i got someone to measure the thickness and they said .060 but over on rps the said the compressed thickness should be around .030 so i dont know if the guy gave me a before measurement or what.if it is .03 or thicker than im going to have these heads shaved to make it really a 10:1 motor because even at .03 its only 9.7:1.i really want the higher compression for power and this 422 and later on the nos im putting on!!im in no rush so if you dont get around to it tonight man its no prob but thanks for looking also:salute:

well i measured mine that are not felpro and they are right around .050 but still if anyone has felpros i could still use the measurement

o my figures are wrong the piston dish is 17.5cc not 23 and felpro gaskets are right around .050.so with those figures, early gen pistons and 95tm heads and a felpro gasket your compression is 9.88.or if you use oe from what im told(.030), have not tested or measured an oe head gasket the compression is around 10.3.im going to be shaving 3cc out of my heads to get to the 10.3 with felpro gasket but really want some oe ones if they really are around .030 so i can be at 10.8:1.does anyone have a set of oe head gaskets that they can measure the non compressed and they compressed thickness of?

here are some spec also if anyone needs them
1gen pistons
-17.5cc
95tm 90tm
48cc 60cc
stroke
3.307
bore ________ stock bore (3.950)
3.971 (mines .02 over)
felpro headgasket
.050 compressed is around .035 to .040
