Ham Radio - CB - Trail Communications I have found that fourwheeling and ham radio go hand in hand. Post any questions or comments about the great hobby of amateur radio here. Of course CB'ers are welcome also. Ray, AE6H and Joe, N1LVN both moderate this forum.

Very nice. Where did you get that center console from? I heard "Havis" but I don't see any parts for 2nd gen explorers.

Thanks for the comments, as for the console, a Crown Victoria Havis Shield center console. I would have prefered a Jotto Desk Slider for a late model CV, but couldn't afford it, and this one was free from a local PD. Any console will work from a Crown Vic. You can't use the seat mount, but you can bolt it right to the floor. I use the hole in the carpet from the factory console to run the wiring. Everything is run under the carpet.

Nice setup. would have preferred an "IN FOCUS" video...
I am trying to use some of your ideas. I have the 857D,
ordering the Hi-Q 5-160 soon. That mount in the rear
should really do the trick.

On the rear 1/4 panels, about 10-12" from the taillight, you lose strength in the sheet metal. It is a crush zone area, and it is double walled, and adds great rigidity to the mount. I used staainless hardware and LMR-400 cause I could...lol Tell charlie when you order the antenna that I said hello, and that he should give you a good deal.

How about that well documented
"Fuel Pump Noise" did you encounter that ?

Do you ever get on the KQ2H Repeater System 29.620, it has links
from 2 meters all the way up to 900MHz ? See you there ?

Just curious, Dave

Yea, actually, I used a 1 farad capacitor like those used in Audio systems. But ford makes a filter for just this problem. I am unsure of the part number, but most hams know of it. I am sure that someone will chime in. It installs either in the tank, or near it. I have no output whine, just on the recieve side.

You don't by any chance have a Blue Tooth/Broadband modem for it do you? It has the WiFi and GPS, and I have the external antenna for the extra radio.
