The only differences are trim and a few body parts. This forum discusses Ford Ranger and Mazda B series specific issues. Owners of the older Mazda B2000 B2200 and B2600 are welcome as well. |

Hi! First time here.
My deaf 19 yearl boy got the first Ranger ever in the family in July, it lasted him a week when he totaled it!, but thanks to air bags, seat belts, crumbling (crumpling ?) zones not he or the girl with him had a scratch, !!!!!!!!!. Therefore we looked & looked till we found another 2003 Ranger........ This second 2003 6 cyl. Ranger xlt, has a problem, the O/D swithc will not engage. Transmission changes all right, from 1 st, to 2 nd, 3 and 4 , no problem. But if he pushes the button when going on 4 th gear, it will not downshift, nor the indicating light would turn on. Is this fuse related? because the oil preassure gage is not working either. Any help welcome, thanks Francisco and Paco |

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the Ranger section. It's always a good idea to check the fuses if there is a common problem.

The oil pressure gauge and the O/D Cancel switch are not electrically related. The oil pressure gauge shares a common fuse and ground with the voltmeter. If the voltmeter works and the OP gauge does not, then it is not a fuse issue.
Possibilities: OP gauge: The most common problem with Ranger oil pressure gauges is the sending switch. On a 3.0L, it is in the block behind the passenger side cylinder head. 4.0L have the switch on the driver side of the block below the A/C compressor. It is virtually impossible to see the sender from above on either engine. Better to look in through the appropriate wheel well. Color code of the single wire to the sender is green/white. O/D Cancel: First, verify that dash fuse #2 is intact. Second, a wire or wires to the O/D cancel switch may be broken. Starting from the switch, the 2 wires pass through the hollow shifter stalk and then make a sharp turn before traveling down the top of the steering column to the dash harness. Over time, the repeated movement of the shifter can break one or both of the wires where it makes that turn. To check it, remove the top plastic trim from the column and inspect the two wires where they come out of the tubular shifter. __________________ Bob 2003 Ranger FX4 Level II, 5.0L V8, 4R70W, BW4406 T/C, Aussie Locker front, Torsen rear Torque Monsters, Magnaflow, duals; Explorer EATC, steering wheel controls, consoles Bilstein 7100 reservoir shocks, Cadillac/Mustang SVO rear discs, Duff traction bars CarDomain Ford owners' manuals ONLINE, then click on "Glovebox" |
