First gen explorer rc model

My work log on possibly the first ever first gen rc model !

I wanted to make a small scale working model of my 94 eb , so after some searching on ebay I came across this.

It's 2 door but oh well , they actually don't make a decent sized 4 door first
gen. I won't be using the police parts or even the entire bottom of the kit for that matter.

This is the donor rc car that will take place of the bottom of the model (a previous christmas present).

The wheelbase of the rc matches perfectly with the 1/20 scale explorer. The rc also had head/taillights bulbs built in already so those will be reused on the final model. I already finished gluing the pieces together and it's ready for paint!

Here's all the pieces in the kit I ended up not using , oh my

When I was a kid, my dad used to have a blue and silver 1st gen explorer, he also got with it an RC of the exact model and paint scheme.. I always thought that was cool... to this day I have no idea where he got it.

Update: Painted the interior and exterior tan pieces.

Unfortunately it was cold outside , which means as I painted the paint did not dry in between the 15 minute coat times. Which means the paint gobbed on. So that in turn means heat lamp time , for a good half day or so it needs the lamp to become "unsticky" to the touch.

Other then that looks good

The rc is also being rewired so the "brain" is under the explorers hood to make room for the interior. The lights are also being wired to turn on solid when the car is on , rather then only when it's moving.
