Arizona was the first state to use the system about 10 years ago or so... People (like me) were turning off their engines and gliding past the mobile setups. We called them "smog dogs". They didn't last too long. After a couple years the state got rid of them and started littering our highways with photo speed cameras instead.

Gotta love big brother!!

Quote:
Envirotest is a private company here in CO, they run all the emissions stations, they are democratic supporters, they keep winning the gov BID for CO without even having any competition. Your tax dollars at work people!
This works both ways. The Republican state legislator who pushed for our original state emissions testing program and got it passed, quit his job with the legislature and took a job with the private company that does the emissions testing... Our state legislature has been controlled by Republicans for over 30 years. They have no problem at all with things like this, and our photo speed cameras. Freedom is for the other guy...

NY just spent like 450 million for big brother camera's, its all because of the new terrorist threat......makes you wonder if there actually was a threat, or just a bunch of politicians wanting to take their cut and spendthe $$$ for more power and control

I am sure the camera's are a real bargain and the whole system has no frivilous spending in it at all... in London I hear there are more then 1 million camera's?? wow

they can track your license plates, your face, everything and they package it so the people are like "yeah! I love it, I feel so safe!"

Rick where is that thread you did about the desert destruction in AZ? I am always mentioning it to my friends and family..I should keep it in my favorites

Maybe in 2009 we can give one to Michael Moore for his amazing work

I cant believe we are actually debating evils of Capitalism vs wonder of Socialism in this country....History teaches us one thing =
we dont learn from our history

every empire falls, scary stuff, and it seems we are overdue? Man for one I hope not to see that happen, this nation is split right down the middle

And what is the crime rate in London? You are safer in Chicago than London.

I have two elderly cousins who live in downtown Chicago and they walk everywhere they go, day and night. Neither has ever found the need to own a vehicle since they have such good public transportation. Neither has been mugged and they love living in the city.

Are there horrible neighborhoods in Chicago? Sure, but I remember when I lived in Denver back in '80-'81 there were some neighborhoods which I wouldn't consider walking through either. Same way in any big city.

Rick I was joking a bit, I know many architects in Chicago, huge bar scene, lots of nightlife, wonderful restaurants, sports city, the El train, etc its a great downtown, awesome buildings, I ride the El when we are there too...

Downtown denver has really cleaned up its act too, I even feel safe in London, but I dont go looking for trouble or walk down dark alleys I just prefer to be camping in the mountains rather then walk around downtown at night, I am tool old for that now LOL

The bad neighborhoods are in North and South Denver, they are even moving closer to my house every day, but downtown is pretty dang nice these days, the old 5 points area is now all rehabbed and full of drunk frat and sorority morons every weekend

You did a photo journal of the destruction being created by the housing developments vs the complaints they use to close our open space... i am 99% sure those were your photos, but it may have been linked by you

They are starting the emissions tests back up in Larimer county.

I was told to plan to spend the whole day there, since the techs pry will be new and not know much, and there will be TONS of people there trying to get it done.

Explorer pry will pass, since it is pretty much stock. Paseo pry not pass since the motor has 200K+ miles on it.

So, when my plates are due after they start that, I'll pry just avoid the drama , and plate back in WY again...

Sorry for all your troubles that sounds like a mess to have to deal with. We have inspections but no smog test. All I gotta do is take my '91 with gutted cats and hole in muffler to any local shop looking for work and I'm in and out with no questions asked. I no I no I'm one of the bad guys that the smog nazi's hate but it burns very clean and it's not my DD.

The beauty of that award is that he was nominated in February- 12 days after he took office, based on things he said he was going to do.

Sorry- but that just makes me laugh. What a crock. LOL!

Here in Alabama, so long as you can walk into the probate office with a bill of sale, you can register your car. I know there are laws here regarding emissions and having all of the proper equipment on a vehicle but it's never enforced or checked. I see at least one or two different cars every day with a permanent sea-foam cloud.

Unfortunately true. I would be quite happy with a sane medium between the non-enforced standards in Alabama and the nazi-enforced standards in CA.
