Second Explorer with Drivers side air vent not blowing

So I had this problem with my 95 explorer and posted here but never got an answer. I have the same problem with my 97 so I'm thinkin there must be something in common here. My drivers side vent only trickles air out of it. The open/close switch is in the open position. I removed the guage cluster and inspected the ducting. Everything is connected. The center vents and passengers side work fine. Does anyone have any clue on what is wrong?? A search on the forum didnt turn out much. Thank you.

sounds like a vacuum switch/motor/supply problem. Check for broken or leaking vacuum hose in engine compartment and under dash by the plenum and also to the vacuum reservoir. Check vacuum motors on the plenum box and try moving the vacuum motor levers manually while the system is on. Moving one of the levers may cause normal air flow pointing at the faulty circuit.

Awesome, thanks for the tips. I'll check those things out and see what I can find. How random is that? 2 explorers in a row with that prob. Is it common?

Not common as far as I can determine. It is more common to have a vacuum hose leak causing only floor vents to work. But there is a door that is operated by vacuum that closes off the dash vents and I'm thinking that maybe it is partially obstructing airflow to the panel vents. Just a guess.

Mine does that too- very little air out of the vent above the headlight switch. I could never figure that out- I never really looked since the other vents always heated up nicely, but if it is on "vent" why wouldn't all of the dash vents work? Do separate vents have separate circuits? Are the 2 center vents on a different electronic circuit than the two vents by the doors? That seems not realistic to me...

The panel vents are fed by 1 plenum duct. The furthest from the plenum is the drivers vent. In the case of reduced airflow from a partially closed panel door the drivers vent would see the least airflow. Not sure that this is the problem, just supplyng a place to look for diagnostic purposes.

Ah ok- gotcha. That makes sense. I just wondered how I can have a hurricane in the center and 2% on the driver's end. Maybe the Category 4 hurricane I thought I had blowing from the center vents is actually only a Category 2 from reduced airflow...

i found the solution to my vent ; under the pasenger side glove compartment ,next to blower thers a black cilinder w/ a hose at the botom. the hose was a lil bit loose and the t conection too, i think my wife kick it out of place
