Anyone ever rebuild a 4R100?

I might be getting a 97 Econoline van that has tranny problems. It supposedly drives but OD has failed. Haven't rebuilt a transmission yet. I think the van probably has a 4R100 or a E40D in it. Seen rebuild kits on fleebay for around $200. Manual runs about $25 for rebuilding one. Thinking that I could do the rebuild myself and am wondering how hard it is?
