Call All Digital Camera Gurus, I need some help.

My wife bought us a Canon Powershot SX20 IS for christmas. Great camera. But but some reason when I try to record movies on the camera in the HD format. It only records for 15 seconds. I have a 8 gig SDHC Card. Its Sandisk. If I lower the res to 640 x 480 it will allow me to record longer. If I use my 1 gig regual SD card which is also a Sandisk it will let me record longer in the HD format. Whats going on?!? Owners manual was not help at all. I do not understand why the high capacity card is doing that. I also e-mailed Canon. Maybe the camera doesnt like the SDHC card? But the owners manual says SD speed class 4 cards are reccomended. I have no clue whats going on. Owners manual says I should be able to record 40 somthing minutes in HD.

I wonder if it is a speed issue with the card? I know that for Compact Flash cards, some can accept data faster than others; this can affect the frame capture rate for multiple shots with my Canon DSLR. Maybe you are maxing out the rate that the card can accept data; after 15 sec the buffer is full and can't accept more.

Yeah, that is probably what's going on.

If its a speed issue, thats weird. My old regular SD card has better speeds? lol, Same brand card on both of them. I have a 4 gig SDHC Kingston card in my GPS. I am gonna give that a shot and give you guys an update. Thanks

Some of the larger cards can be slower. If you look up the exact cards online you'll find some good info on how fast they can write data.

I tried my 4 gig Kingston SDHC card and it worked perfect. I will search online tomorrow before I go exchange the card.
