98 SOHC 4WD problems
Hey guys, I have a few problems. My mother drove the X to the gym in 4L(the road was wet but not slick[I told her a few times that its not smart]) I turn the truck on to go get groceries even though it was on auto the 4L was still lit on the dash, my driveway was slick and a steep angle so I put it in 2nd and 4L and it powered out with no problem.
Once I get out I pull over shift to park and put it into auto, light goes off after a second with some noise and it felt weird in the seat of my pants(normal?) I'm driving down my hill and in the flat I feel and hear almost a rubbing noise in my front wheels like the engine is racing with the tire rub(wheel was straight) and it felt as if the nose of the truck was dipping towards the ground. Fast forward, leaving the store I shift into 4H without moving I shift back out(a stupid test) it rattled and shifted out fine. I think its my electronic T-case control but I've used the 4H numerous times over the past week or two with all the snow I've had to drive through. There has been no major work done on Trans or Engine, last things I've done was take wheel off to check brakes and change the engine oil. |

Trans in neutral and brake pedal depressed to go into or out of low, if not the encoder and gem can get lost. Also cold weather and little use of the transfer case causes a dirty armature and sluggish shift motor.

Alright maybe this could help more, I was talking to my father and he said before I shifted into 4L(I tried getting out in H) he said the front wheels were not spinning at all. Which would explain why it felt like it was grabbing and dipping again after about a half mile.
I'm thinking it may have been because I messed up and thought you used park to shift into L. Its been running fine since then so if I just leave it until spring time when its warmer than 10* outside and trouble shoot when I do my manifold gaskets will that cause any possible damage to my T-cade? |

If it is running ok and not stuck in low or neutral and not grinding you should have no trouble with the t-case.

Ok driving home this morning and it started doing it again. Not in 4H or L just auto. Pulling back out I had a friend check and the front left wouldn't spin
