Transmission OD disengages too quickly.
I have a 2000 Mountainer, over 100,000 miles. Its been a pleasure to drive aside from the fact that the OD is in and out so much. Most noticeable in town about 25 to 35 mph and with just a slight touch of the gas after coasting it jumps out of OD. I realize why it does this but I would like for it to give me a little bit of throttle before it down shits. Im aware I can disable the OD with the button, but I forget sometimes to turn it back on as Im picking up speed. So my question tonight is when I get my filter changed soon is there anything we can to to delay the shifts a small degree?

I might be wrong about the OD, it might be the converter locking up instead. Because it quits after I turn off the OD is why I thought it was the OD. Ive noticed though that the RPMs dont change at all and now Im thinking its the converter locking and unlocking that Im feeling. This happins when Im just touching the gas after coasting about 30mph.

The throttle position sensor feedback causes the Toque converter to unlock.
When it "sees" a rise in voltage this occurs. You might check that your TPS voltage is less than 1v in the idle position. Also check for a smooth transition in voltage thru the throttle travel. |

Oh I can verify more throttle will unlock it. Try going up a big hill in overdrive. The torque converter will unlock. However, it will lock back up if overdrive is turned off, and the trans stays in the 3rd gear while under load.
My TPS theory is out there, but still deserves checking out. |

Mr Turdle
You were dead on about the sensor! I replaced it without even testing it. Big difference now. Thank-you very much. |
