Will a 95 explorer 4.0 OHV fit a 98 4.0 OHV explorer?
I have a 98 explorer XLT with a bad 4.0 OHV engine. I found a good 4.0 OHV engine from a wrecked 95 explorer. I was told the engines was not the same but I am not sure. Can the intakes or other parts be swaped to make it work in the 98?

Swap the fuel rail and upper intake...that is about it.
There may be a few sensors that you have to re-use from your old one....as 1995 was OBD 1.5 (kinda OBD1, but not quite OBD2)...where as the 98 was OBD2, and the sensor range may be different. Ryan __________________ 1992 Ford Explorer XL - with a few bolt ons... |

4.0
I was hoping that would be the case. I asked several salvage yards, dealer part dept and a shop but either know one wanted to help or could care less unless I was interested in buying from them. I did find the heads was the same (excluding upper intake) but I was afraid the block was different and not having a sensor location or something like that. Thank you ,JW
