Who here likes the new Raptors, I know I do. They look crazy and the main reason of why their so famous is because they have a great suspension from the factory. Theres no question about it that an explorer isn't quite in the raptors class We all know that, but could it be? What if you did an all after market suspension. I'm not just taking the truxxx lift along with some rims and tires. I'm talking a nice after marked suspension like the raptor. But nothing totally hard core like a ranger trophy truck or any thing. Just something nice and stong thats better than what it has now. Any ideas on how much something like that would cost.

that would be great .... aftermarket of explorer is not even moderate it is minimal.

What it needs is better ground clearance, and the 4th gen Explorer is really not a good platform for building an off roader upon. They should have made the Explorer with more ground clearance and some suspension with better articulation...but they didn't...oh well...

I agree, any 3rd or 4th gen is lacking in the clearance department, which is a fundamental part of offroading But as long as you have the money, I suppose the sky's the limit. There are guys here who have built 1st and 2nd gens into pretty nice desert trucks with awesome aftermarket suspensions, try searching around for those.

I've always kinda wondered about an AIR lifted system maybe with something nice like this - http://www.myhotexplorer.com/Air-Sus...on-Kit/582029/ along with some air spring spacers that go from 2" to 6" and are easily adjustable like these if that pic didn't work follow this link = http://www.truckspring.com/suspensio...ift/52150.aspx

Spring spacers limit articulation and don't give the suspension any additional useful travel, like high quality suspension lifts do. Finally, as always, CVs in the rear go through the frame, so lift's have to either be minimal or extreme (probably easier just to do dual SAS if you want more than 2.5" of lift with no body lifts).

Yea your right, it's really just more for show trucks. But it does give height clearence and an adjustable ride thats always comfortable. How extreme would the lower end of extreme be?... maybe like 5" or 6"

Yeah, about 6" is what I've heard being thrown around in previous dual SAS discussions where the CV's through the frame is an issue.

It would be sick if Ford SVT made an explorer like the Raptor minus the silly graphics on the side. To actually be able to buy an SUV that you can use as an SUV would be great. If you guys get a chance, check out the Raptor that Hennessey altered.

The silly graphics are actually an option on the Raptor. And I don't know why anyone would pay to make their vehicle uglier, but I see it happen all of the time.
