4wd conversion on a 07

Just wanted to know if a 07 ford explorer can be converted to 4wd and if so does anyone have the drive train break down, or has done it. I had heard that every thing is the same between the two, the 2wd and 4wd, just the 4wd parts like transfer case front dif and controlls are not installed.

of course it can, but its not gonna be as easy as u are makin it sound. both trucks start out the same but get very different treatments at the factory, so there will be MANY things that will have to be changed in the process, and will take some skill and at least a bachelor degree in southern engineering not sayin dont go for it if u can get all the parts together, just sayin be forewarned its not a "bolt in" procedure.

My biggest thing is the trans, do i need a diffrent one or can the output shaft be changed? I have looked at buying a older model 4wd but the wife doesn't really want an extra car and we will be moving in two to three years and wont take it with us.

I think it would be cheaper and easier to trade -- unless you have the know-how to DIY.

much, much simpler (and cheaper) so sell your truck and buy a 4wd / AWD.

You need:
-transfer case
-front differential
-front hubs
-front halfshafts
-Reflash your PCM to control T case
-dash control switches
...I'm sure i'm forgetting some things
