Just joined, need help. I recently acquired 2002 Explorer XLT(VIN 8th digit "E") 160,000 miles. Rear cam chain basically destroyed the engine. The problem is this engine has an intake/upper plenum LIKE VIN "K" flex fuel engine. The intake crosses over the top of the pass. valve cover.
The VIN "E" motor has the air intake at the front of the engine. I looked at both engines at my local junk yard. The question: should I purchase the flex fuel engine OR purchase the "E" gas engine & then put my intake on that motor?
Are there any INTERNAL differences between VIN "K" motor compared to gas(VIN "E") ?
Thanks
