how many gallons is our gas tank?
i was gasing up before work last night and i put 40 bucks in cash figureing it was gonna fill it up but it didnt and added another 16 bucks. added all together was 16 gallons and its not evenfilled up. so all together i spent 56 bucks and its 3.07 a gallon. does this sound right? im thinking i spent topo much and it's not even full. yes i filled from empty it started missing like i was running out of gas. (gas gauge doesnt work). thanks!

That sounds right, I've gotten 18 gallons in mine before and I could tell it was running out. When gas was more expensive ($3.50+), I regularly put $65 or more into it for a normal fill up, and that was usually 16-17 gallons.

Just hold the trigger until it clicks off... then you know your full... simple solution...
But ya, should hold around 19 gallons if it was right empty... probably at least a gallon or even more left in the bottom when the truck starts to sputter... I would think with $56.00 in the tank, you would have been awfully close to full. That's 18.24 gallons... you must have been pretty empty... It was a long, LONG time ago that $40 could fill an Ex from empty... __________________ 1992 XLT | 5.5" Superlift | SOA | SJ Extended Brake Lines | Rancho RS 5000 | 35x12.50x15 Cooper STT | 15x8 AR767 | Dana 35 Nitro 4.88 | | Ford 8.8 Yukon 4.88 | Aussie Lockers Front and Rear | Cherrybomb Vortex | 8" Pro-Comp 130's | Still To Come: Custom Bumpers & Roof Rack, More Lights, Winch, OD GREEN

When gas was about 3.75 around here, it cost me about $125.00 to fill my FS Bronco. 9 mpg and a 32 gallon fuel tank puts a hurtin on the ol' billfold.

Make sure you aren't pumping gas out of the top of the tank or somewhere around it. In my Explorer whenever I "fill up" (especially when it's cold, not so much when its warm) it'll click off, but by that point there's gas coming out of the top of the tank. That's why I haven't filled up in years, usually just run like 20-30 bucks at a time.
But if you aren't leaking gas, more than likely you just didn't fill it up, take a peak underneath the truck and look how large that damn tank is. It's a BEAST __________________ "Thunder" Registry R.I.P. 2005-2012 2001 Ford Ranger (New!!) "You can hear me when I'm coming" - Yung Joc |

Also, keep in mind different pumps pump differently.
For example, in California I can't fill the front tank on the van. It will shut off about 2 gallons early and it just won't take any more. I've only tried 3 pumps in Ca though. In Arizona, on the lower pressure pumps I can fit 17 gallons in my 16 gallon tank on the van. With the higher pressure ones its right at about 16 or a little less where it shuts off. On the X, in Arizona I have fit almost 21 gallons in the tank more than once which means I was filling the air pocket and the fill hose. With the caster like it was on the X until recently, when I turned the wheel all the way to the left it would left the left side of the X which would allow me to put more fuel into it. ~Mark |

The 1994 I have is rated at 19.4 gallon capacity.
I have been able to squeeze in over 20 gallons at a time. Ouch! Best mileage on a tank was 433 miles. __________________ Faith is the evidence of things hoped for, the substance of things not seen. I also would have to agree as with my 93 that’s what it was to fill it last time I did that some thing that almost never happens any more unless I am on a trip some place.
What I hate is how I get crappy MPG from this stupid Calif. gas compared to say Oregon gas. Last trip it made a defiance of almost 2 MPG be it the 93 EX or the 2001 Taurus! GRRRRRR. I also know the Reno NV gas is just as bad as Calif gas but get out side that area and then ya get the good stuff! |
