I have just bought a pair of hella 550 driving. I mounted them in front of where my factory lights were. I am extremely pleased. They are far brighter than my piaa 9007 superwhites, which I am dissapointed at. They illuminate as far as my high beams with great beam pattern. I also never get flashed. I also got what I thought was a good deal. Pep Boys has them for 70 dollars. JC Whitney wants 80 plus shipping and carparts.com was about the same. I have seen them on ebay though for about 60. I could not bring myself to pay for the piaa's after being dissapointed by the 9007's Hope this helps.

The PIAA 9007's are great, I am happy with them. My KC's are brighter, but hey, the 9007's are JUST headlight replacements. Some people expect too much from those lights.

does anyone know how well the 550 fog lights perform? btw, johnmcgarrah, i think you are lucky to get them cheap from pepboys. whenever i look in their store for parts and accessories that i see online, the prices are outrageous.

Hi ksaldibar,

Here in Germany most people have the Hellas,
me too.

I can`t say that they are better than the PIAAs(never had some),
but they work good for me!

Had some fog-lamps from Hella at my Ford Fiesta some years ago and they everytime maked a good job for me!!

;) hope this helps!

yeap.. i run Hella 550 driving and fogs. those fogs are damn bright too... i once had both my headlights burn out and it took me awhile to realize it! great set of lights those Hellas!

i recently found out that they come in both amber and clear. is there really a difference in how they preform? thanks for the help.

well i figure that the amber ones wouldnt be as bright as the clear. when u put any sort of filter (the amber lens) infront of the clear light, u cut down the brightness. however, i dont know is yellow light will help see through certain weather conditions

I had the 550 fogs on my old X, and they are a good set of lamps. Only problem I had was that the lights would not point down quite enough when I mounted them on the Safari bar. The amber lights are supposed to help improve visual contrast in foggy conditions.

Hi

The amber lights give you some better contrast in bad weather conditions(fog, snow and rain),the light which comes out of them is lower of reflections.

The clear lights have more reflections in bad weather conditions.

So with the amber ones you see the things better(sharper) than with the clear lights!

all the places i look, i can olny find the clear fogs. so far cabelas.com is the cheapets at 80. does anyone know if pepboys will special order them because i know they carry the 500 and 550 driving lamps?

If you con't find the amber lights anywhere, you could always get the clear lenses and replace the bulbs with the PIAA ion crystal H3 bulbs. It's a bit more expensive, but it should work.
