help w/ electric brake
I have a 94 explorer w/ tow package, I bought a Hayes electric brake controller, of course they don't have the universal quick connect for that vehicle so I have to use the universal (which doesn't connect) once I get the correct connect I need help with how to install from the controller end to the trailer (74 travel trailer) .

Were there any in structions with your controller? I would imagine that there would be a schematic of some kind. I nave never hooked one up myself, all my towing trucks were set up when I bought them.

From what i see on Their site it should be pretty easy, your going to need to get a few fuses and such. 20 or 30 amp self resetting breaker from the battery to the controller on the black wire. 20 amp fuse (i would use another self resetting breaker) from the stop light switch on the red wire. Wire color in the truck for this one is light Green. White wire to a ground.

Just to add it in there, I dont use my Ex for towing, I use my F350. I pull a number of trailers with it, and decided a while ago after a bad trailer smoked my multifunction switch that i was going to put in a relay pack to isolate the trailer from the truck. If you want me to draw up how I did it, I will.

i returned the hayes, have a blackbird by Valley 32812 model, tiny diagram not very clear, and apparently since I'm in WA state I also have to hook a break away device. the pig tail for the back of the unit is very short, so I have to splice wire to everywhere it needs to go. tips would be great. thanks

here is the setup Im using with my F350. As I said i pull a few different trailers with it, everything from a single axle trailer to drag around a lawn mower to my 22,000 lb Racing Trailer.

thanks, I'm waiting for the site pdf to load and print now. They had me switch from a 6 pin to 7 pin on the trailer side. The pigtail to go from a 4wire flat to a round 7pin, the break away unit, and the controller. The only thing I'm dreading is from the controller to the back of the car, because it's a 94 (even though it has a tow package) there isn't a quick connect. So I have to wire from the dash unit to the battery, circuit breaker all the way to the back of the car. I wish I had a regular pick up, unfortunately I have two explorers, the trailer is an older 2 axle 18' not super heavy, it towed home fine.

Right click on the diagram and click 'save picture as' You then can save it anywhere you want.

For the X, you should be able to pull the trim from under the doors, run it through there where most of the wires for the rear of the truck run anyway.
