installing factory nav
so i was looking at my radio today which is just a single disc mp3 player and i have two same connections as the nav radio expect for the one circle in red, what happens if i leave that unplugged, i was told by techician that connection is just for the amp built in the radio, and can do without it... is that true or no?

Try it out and see.. No harm in that, takes 5 minutes and you'll answer your own question.
I'd guess it's the GPS antenna though, since that would be something needed for the navigation, along with your regular connections? |

I was told by Ford serv dept, that since I have Sirius now with my single cd/mp3, and the Sirius antenna is on the roof already, that the factory gps uses the same antenna.
Is that so? |

I understand that the satellite radio and GPS do use the same antenna. Not sure what the connector arrangement is for that to supply to the GPS, though.

That is incorrect. the "unit" is 1, but the actual antenna's are seperate.

According to the service manual, regarding removal/installation of the roof-mounted GPS antenna:
"This procedure is the same as the satellite radio antenna procedure, as a combination satellite radio/GPS is utilized for vehicles with navigation." The only cable routing I saw was for the satellite antenna, though. It seems to use the same connector in the a-pillar, but appears to terminate in the satellite received in the passenger sidewall. Nothing is shown going to the GPS connector on the back of the radio, so as I said, not sure how that is routed. Either the signal is provided through the satellite receiver harness, or perhaps you can include a separate antenna somewhere. Mounting a separate antenna under the dash probably won't work if you have the electronic windshield defrost option. =Vic= |

One is for Sirius only. The other is Sirius and GPS. You will need to replace yours with the latter. That's what I had to do. __________________ 2004 Cadillac CTS-V - 222/226 cam, Z06 FRCs, B&B LT headers, cats, X-pipe, mufflers Hotchkis swaybars, gForce axles, etc. 2009 Cadillac CTS 3.6 DI 2004 Cadillac CTS 3.6 2013 GMC Yukon Denali |
