4r55e shifting problem

Roll 4r55e shifting problem

just rebuilt 4r55e in my 96 ex. now its won't shift out of first unless you let up on the throttle shifts into thre other gears just fine it seems to down shift ok , just hard shifting out of first

Check the bands. It sounds like you have a broken band.

i INSTALLED NEW SEP. PLATE & GASKETS & BLOW OFF VALVE , READJUSTED BANDS, IT SEEMS TO SHIFT FINE NOW ,BUT , NOW HAVE A CODE FOR SHIFT SOLENOID C STUCK

What's the code number? Did you use a torque wrench to adjust the bands, and tighten the valve body bolts?

yes vb bolts tightened to specs, & bands to 10 inch lbs 1 1/2 turns out, are shift solenoids in a 5r55e the same as 4r55e

I personally had the same problem with one of my explorers befor and it turned out to be the servo piston for the band was seized up because where the heat shield is for the exhaust is right over the servo pistons and it causes them to get hot and harden up... my advise would be to check your servo pistons for signs of cracking or hardening and if found to replace them... you can get them for around 15 usd each

I know this is old!!!

i really need to know what you ended up fixing that was the problem....was it the solenoid or bands or etc.... this same thing happened to my ranger and my obd2 wont read at all ...please help
