Does anyone know the engine code for a 1999 4008cc explorer thanks as i need to order parts and they want the engine code

The eighth VIN position is the engine displacement and number of cylinders.

For a 1999 Explorer these are your choices:
X — 4.0L EFI-OHV, six cylinder
E — 4.0L EFI-SOHC, six cylinder
P — 5.0L EFI, eight cylinder

For a 2000 it's:
X — 4.0L, EFI, OHV, six cylinder
E — 4.0L, EFI, SOHC, six cylinder
P — 5.0L, EFI, eight cylinder
K — 4.0L, EFI, SOHC, six cylinder, flex fuel

You will notice in both years they offered an Over Head Valve motor and an Single Over Head Cam engine in the 4.0L size.
