Thumbs up Arizona day run - Crown King

Looks like some of the rangers over at Rough Rangers are putting together a Crown King run on June 23rd or 24th. Anyone else interested in tagging along?

I'll give an update when the ranger guys finalize the run.

As for the difficulty, stock rangers make the run, with some heavy spotting and the use of a tow strap once or twice. No vehicle damage, body or mechanical.

I took the following from the RRORC Region D website:

This is a good all day trail run with a few hard obstacles and many hard optional obstacles. It starts out in the desert and you end up in the pines. The actual trail is around 35 miles and you have to factor in driving there and back. so make sure you have plenty of gas.

Directions:
Take I-17 until you reach the Carefree Hwy. Follow the Carefree Hwy west and take the Lake Pleasant turnoff. Follow the road until you see a "T" intersection where the pay place is for lake parking and make a left onto the dirt road. After you get on the dirt just drive and follow any rocks the have CK--> painted on them.
This trail is pretty much a one way trail and it gets very narrow when you get into the canyons. Once you have completed the trail just follow the dirt road and you will see a small town, It's called Crown King. There is a good place to eat on the right hand side just as you get off the trail its called THE MILL. When you are leaving just follow the dirt road forever and it will spit you out on I-17 at the bumble bee RD exit and just head south back into town.

I've run the trail numerous times going back as far as my stock Mazda P/U. Nothing to difficult, but it's a good run to get out of the Valley heat quickly and up to the pines in Crown King.

It really makes a nice long run if you decide to take it all the way up to Prescott via the Senator Highway. Then you can come back down I-17 or Hwy. 89.

How do you figure it's not at all hot up by Florence? The weather was nice today, but that's a fluke.

Crown King has pine trees. Florence has Cholla and Saguaro.

The Valley has 8-9 months of the year with perfect weather for anything outdoors we just happen to be in the 3-4 months of hell. I'll wait.

For now I'll stick to the "cool" runs. Crown King, Colorado and Rubicon.

Ok, the ranger guys have got a time set.
June 24th, 9am at The White Horse restaurant/bar on lake pleasent road just south of carefree hwy.

Directions:

From the I-10 hwy: take I-10 west to the 101(agua fria freeway) head north and exit at union hill drive, turn left(west)on union hills, then turn right on 83 ave(circle k on corner), turn left at pinnicle peak road, then turn right on lake pleasent road, follow until you get the white horse bar which is on the right hand side of the road.....you cant miss it the building is all white and its the only thing out there

From I-17:
get on the 101 west and get off at union hill drive and follow the above directions

See you all there!

Those ranger guys are terriable. some have dropped out, and since there are only 2 that are showing up at 9am, they've cancled the whole thing. bunch of wusses.

any other explorers going to be at the white horse at 7am?

clint, you are so full of crap. take it to its limits...ha!
besides, even if you are serious, your trucks limits have been speed bumps....

anyways, there are some good sections on the trail i hear, stuff stockers have to bypass.

From what I remember there are just two real "obstacles" Both are sections of the old road where there is nothing left, but exposed bedrock. One has a lot of ledges.
