Crankshaft Sensor Test??

I found this crankshaft sensor test procedure from:
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...ad.php?t=85965

Using a 12v test light, connect the test light to the battery positive, turn the key to the on position, and probe each of the three negative wires on the coil electrical connector. If the light comes on, your coil is bad. If the light does not come on, it is not getting a signal from the crankshaft position sensor. Replace the sensor.

Is this a legitimate testing procedure?? If not, is there a way to test the crankshaft position sensor? I think this MAY be my problem to my previous post... http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...d.php?t=309273
