Exclamation Has MFT gone crazy on you?

Yesterday when pulling out of the parking garage back from work, sync went berzerk. I've had my share of MFT/sync freezing up, but this was more drastic. It would start beeping like when you have a door open or the voice command prompt. At first the sound would be low but it would steadily increase. What is wierder is that the central volume knob no longer changes the volume. If I rotate it the volume bar says 'Volume voice prompt' or something like that. I can rotate it down to zero, but then it keeps increasing to a very loud beep-beep-tone-tone sound.

I switched off the music, tried restarting the car etc. Nothing worked. I got so mad that I even did a master reset, still no luck. I switched off the car, took the key out and inserted it back, the sound was there.

Finally I had to go out, so I locked it and left for a while. When I came back things were back to normal. Volume knob started working on the volume and no more beeps.

No idea why it happened, but looks like if I take the key out and LOCK the door, sync shuts down or something. This might explain why it came back to normal.

Today I did not have any issues. Has anyone else run into this probem? Hoping this is a one-off issue because I really do like the system overall.

Mine has been rock solid, with one exception. When I first paired my 9700BB (secondary phone for sync), it didn't want to pair my primary phone. Deleted and re-added the BB...no issues.

Hey astrorex,

This is Seni with Ford Customer Service. In the interest of customer satisfaction, Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to improve overall system functionality by reprogramming the MyFord Touch system to the latest level free of charge (parts and labor) under the terms of this program. This may help the issues you are currently experiencing even if they are intermittent.

This Customer Satisfaction Program will be in effect until January 31, 2012 regardless of mileage. The time needed for this repair is less than one-half day. However, due to service scheduling requirements, your dealer may need your vehicle for a longer period.

Hope that you found this information helpful.

Seni

Not trying to start anything, but could all these MFT issues be happening because it's Windows based? I was an IT guy for 8 years and had more Winders issues than you could imagine. I finally switched to Mac and will probably never go back. Just sayin'.

Jack, I'm an IT guy too - work with Windows all day and have a Mac at home. I have plenty of problems with my Mac - main reason the perception is out there that Macs are problem free is because they are, by far, in fewer hands than Windows boxes. Same thing with viruses - the reason Macs don't get viruses is because the bad guys don't write viruses for the Mac - they go after Windows, which is a much bigger install base.

Back to this issue - this (Ford Explorer) is a new environment - it will take them awhile to work the bugs out.

I love the way I heard this described a while back. A Windws PC is like a house in the ghetto with bars in the windows and an alarm system. A Mac is a nice house in the country with the doors unlocked and windows wide open.

Quack -that's great! I installed Parallels on my Mac - which is software that lets you run Windows in a "window" on your Mac - when I did this, one of my Mac friends said "Uh oh, now you've invited a hooker to the party" :-)

I wonder if it has anything to do with Navigation? I have a limited without nav and my MFT has been rock solid. Not a single problem. I even have v2.4.

wait a min ... as the OP, I did not mean to blame MFT and/or Microsoft In spite of the fact the once in a while it makes me pull my hair out when I try voice commands I love this thing. It works well with iPhone, I can even watch movies on it when parked, and my 2.5 year old daughter now wants to 'talk' to the car. The indexing and playing USB is amazing, and it even recognizing non english words pretty well once I use it for a while, even iPhone can't do that well.

Now, since its Microsoft, the irony is that they did not add the 'reboot' button, that would've solved all my problems (it does for my PC )

Seni, thanks for the info, u r the best! I'll definitely call my dealer and see if I can get the upgrade.

The disc player is not a DVD player. The movies must be on a USB, SD, or through the RCA connectors. I played movie off my iPhone with the right cable into the RCA connectors. Haven't tried USB or SD card yet.

Me too, I was able to watch movies on iPhone using the RCA cables. I also wa able to do the same with Zune.

Sgt1411, are you sure USB is supported? I tried that but it did not recognize the any of the movie formats All I can do with that is photos (for wallpaper) and mp3s.

You may be right I haven't tried it, only got this from others on the forum.

Like you I have only used iPhone and iPad through RCA cables for movies.

OEM DVD players have RCA as well so kids can use anything off their ipod Touch or iPhone.

I'll throw one I have ripped for my iPad on one of my flash drives today and see what it does. But the MFT manual only mentions compatible music formats that can be used in the USB connection. Video is only mentioned in reference to the RCA connections.

My salesman told me I could do DVD through the disc player. I knew he was wrong, but had to try it just in case.

That was one of my big complaints on my post sale survey......dealer staff knowledge of the product.

This forum is packed with examples of complete ignorance by dealer staff.

If you don't know then don't say anything.

What does it take, 30 minutes to read the SYNC Owners Manual?

Considering Ford actually now pays each dealer a $75 fee to ensure a "SYNC Specialist" at each dealer mitigates all the confusion around MFT.
