Well, I had to do mine twice Xeek. Maybe you will want to do it again next spring. It took me about 12 hours labour. Not too bad, really.
Costs still added up though. Gaskets, valves, machine shop, fluids.....

There really are no shortcuts.

I don't know if you know but i did mine 3times.once with the 410cam and stock heads, once with 422 cam and 95tm heads and last built because i didn't test the heads before i put them on and a BRAND new head had crack, last time i shaved and did p+p work.i agree there is no short cuts and don't cut corners on engine builds for sure !!i pulled the motor the first and last build though.

yea, two heads thinking the other one tightened the water vally bolt inside the head when neither actually did.. rushing things. lol
if i get around to it, i think this would be considered number 3 and itd be the same as you then. we didnt pull it for the valve seals and pushrods. lol
im gonna keep the 410 tho. just p+p heads and intake, new lifters, paint my headers. NEW A4LD!!

im pretty sure i can pull it by myself now jd. simple process. ill try to have the whole front end off anyway when i do it. i want to do a through cleaning.

why is there no pictures or videos in here???

I don't have much for pic's. I was great for pic's the first time since it was all a new experience, but the second go round I couldn't get good pics of anything that was worth shooting.

Maybe a good video of me swearing the odd time with a dropped bolt or socket that fell and didnt hit the ground would have been funny. Or maybe the push rod that fell thru the valley when installing, after the lower intakes on? Yup, some good swearing there.

Just a quick thought on compression. Couldn't I use an SOHC spark plug? It would extend in to the cylinder about 1/4 inch and up compression a bit more. With the angle of the plug, it doesn't look like it would contact the piston at all.

This would up compression a bit more, as the spark plug would displace more of the combustion chamber area. Thoughts?

I think and i say i think the only difference in plugs is the temp range .it would be to cold i believe.i think for what little it would take up it would hurt performance more.why are you looking to increase it more?i would look into e fans or under drive the crank if your looking for more power

I was just thinking out of curiosity. Its that low static compression that has me thinking about this.

It looks like the SOHC's plug is a bit longer, actually made to extend in to the cylinder. e-fan is done. No underdrive pulley though. I'll maybe research heat ranges a bit.

Power? Always thinking of ways that are cheap and reliable.

When you did compression test did you do a wet and dry one or just dry?

Just dry. Im not really burning any oil to speak of. Figured that rules our rings for the most part.

Not really true.if you do a wet thats more what the real compression is,ill bet it would be way higher,if not then could be rings causing low compression

Tough to know what I'd be getting in to. With low boost, it might be ok without new fuel pump or injectors. Also a tune? Im going to find out. Sure would be a fun thing to do.
