"Stripe Bandit" (1993 Limited)

So here we go, adding yet another Bandit to the stable. I think this makes number 7...I've lost count

So here are the basic specs, it's a 1993 Limited 4x4, fully loaded (meaning it has a sunroof) and let's just say it fell into my lap :D

It's still in Tulsa where I purchased it, but I will pick it up on 5-23-2011. It's white with tan interior, and considering how long it has been sitting (18+ months) it's not in horrible shape, but is showing wear. Mechanically, it needs a fuel pump and the PO said she was putting in about 2 quarts of ATF everyweek so there is a leak somewhere...the way the ground was, I couldn't get underneath it to look.

The paint is in fair condition, a few scratches here and there, there is some rust forming on the dog legs, but not too bad. The grille is slightly damaged from being backed into (along with the tweaked front bumper) but no dents or dings I could tell otherwise.

Some of you may know I have always liked Limiteds, and have always wanted a first gen. Well, looks like time has finally come where I will have a real one :D Once I get it home, i will throw up some better pictures.

And yes, it needs washed BADLY..LOL

Right? I think at this point Bandit Garage has become the Jesus House for explorers...

good luck with this one

LOL, don't ask me where the name came from, it just popped in my head and sounded good :D

It's pretty much going to remain stock for now, just because, well...it's a first gen limited lol. Ill fix whatever it needs and what not, but i want to baby this thing just like I will shade. Time shall see

The seats look like Lazy-boy chairs! You'll have to do a patch job on that driver's side cushion though. Any upholstery place can do that.

Are you going to put a 5R55 in this one too?

Looks just like mine did when I got it.

Mike, it's a possibility, just gotta determine why its leaking in the first place and how much it will take to fix it and what not. Im anxious to drive it though :p:

Tomorrow is the day! I will have the trailer tonight, and then should meet the PO up there in tulsa about 10-11 am. And remember when I said the fuel pump was out? Well...

Since I dont feel like pushing the thing up on the trailer by myself, I designed this...from, you know, spare parts laying around...

It's an external Fuel Cell / Presser tester. Basically, its a gas tank with a fuel pump inside hooked up to a pair of aligator clips (for the battery) and a switch. The other side hooks up the fuel rail via the Fuel Pressure Relief Valve. It has a pressure gauge for pump pressure (about 80 PSI) and an adjustable pressure regulator set to about 40 PSI with built in Pressure Relief Valve. :smoke:

Needless to say, I hook this bad boy up to a vehicle with a bad fuel pump, and it should run. So we shall see if this works. More photos tomorrow!!:p:

ok, so sorry for delay on updating this, but Stripe is home in good ole Oklahoma. But long story short...

The day before my trip to Austin, i ran up to Tulsa and loaded up Stripe. Turns out my external fuel pump test rig was not adequete enough, but luckily enough the previous owners father was there with his tractor to pull Stripe up on the trailer

So I got Stripe home and parked him in the street and left him.

So after the trip to austin, I replaced the fuel pump and Stripe just fired up :D Now to tackle the tranny leak...

Good luck with the tranny , Mine is sitting because of the tranny , Nice Start for a First Gen Limited Tho

Well, I went to move stripe last night and it wouldn't shift into gear. Which I was expecting honestly. The next step I need to do is drop the pan and take a look inside to see what's up. I cant be that lucky that all it is, is a bad pan gasket, lol

Good luck to yah. Hopefully there is nothing more in the pan than a bunch of sediment. Also watch for showers and possible flash floods when you open it up. :p:

Well an update to Stripe:

ok, maybe not a real update, as stripe hasnt moved seeing as the forward clutches will not disengage

And I think my luck is running out, but tonight i came across an explorer being parted out with a lift (which i got) and a rebuilt tranny with only 80 miles on it...which i got :D

So as soon as I get the tranny, i might spend a day and do a tranny swap in stripe to get him up and going. These major swaps are in no short order at the bandit household it seems...

Why cant I just have starters go out instead ::sigh::
