You can use a DVOM with a frequency counter. The Hz will change with the change in manifold vacuum. There is a table in the shop manual that will indicate 'normal' ranges for given ambient atmospheric pressures or altitudes. The Hz should change as the throttle is opened and closed. A 'snap' of the throttle should show definite and quick response.
Generally, they go bad or work. When bad, the idle can go all over the place as the MAP is telling the computer the engine is under load and then .not., leading to a wandering and unstable idle.
