2001 Explorer Control Trac

I have a 2001 Explorer XLT with the 5-speed auto transmission and the Control Trac system with Auto, 4-High, and 4-Low settings on the 4X4 rotary switch. The truck had 120,000 km when I bought it this past spring and now has 130,000 km. I haven't had any problems with the Control Trac so far, but I have only used it once in 4-High. It engages and disengages cleanly.

What kinds of problems have been encountered by anyone with this system? I have heard that the more you use the 4-High or 4-Low settings, the more problems are encountered, and that the best thing to do in winter is leave it in Auto and let the system kick in the 4-High when required.

Any responses welcome!

Main problem I have had with the Control Trac is the transfer case, the shift fork in particular. Also, it is very sensitive to tire wear, as in the circumference of all four tires must match.
