Help

Hey guys and gals I'm in need of some help I drive a 91 ranger that I got from my dad about a yr ago and he got it from a buddy who owns an impound I have no idea how long it had been there but what I'm having problems with it and I would like to correct them and then beef it up here are the problems with it the t-case woks when it wants to and when it does it only engages for a bit and then it binds pop and then there's this huge popping sound and it'll just disengage itself and even tho my man trans is in gear the truck won't budge almost like the trans is frozen and when you try to pull it out of gear you almost have to put your feet on the dash just to pull the shifter in to N but if you give it a few mins it will just "give up" and be fine what could be causing this I know there's 2 different styles of t-case for my truck I dunno which is what and what's in my truck in words of wisdom for me any would help thanks

transfer case is broken. Don't use until after it has been removed, repaired, and re-installed. I mean don't use the four wheel drive, right? Still good to use the 2wd.

Check the door tag to determine your transfer case type.
