4 wheel drive button 93 toggle switch?

i have a 93 explorer and my 4wd works but when i put it in neutral and hit the four low button i hear the computer in the back make some noises but i don't feel the transfer case clunk any more and the light dose not come on and then the 4wd light shuts off and goes back into 2wd. aka not engaging 4wd low. now i was told that it was my switch that i need to replace and if so could i put some toggle switches in. ?

Do you trust the person telling you the switch is bad? It seems to me that the switch is just fine where the "computer" in the back is responding to the switch. It seems more common in these situations for the problem to be in the shift motor.
