Planning to install a separate drain plug and temp sensor in the transmission pan of my '97 XLT 4x4 SOHC with 5R55E. Getting ready for some moderate towing duty next year.

I see B&M and Mr. Gasket brands available, as well as others.

Are any brands especially preferred here, or are they all basically equivalent?

What are the ideal locations to drill?

I cannot say whether this is ideal or not, but it works great, and is a very clean install. Advance Auto Parts item # 65211 $2.79. You will need a metric nut to match.

Thanks for the pic. The more I think about this, the more I'm inclined to go with Plan B, which is a ScanGaugeII or AeroForce Interceptor scan gauge to pick up trans temp from the OBDII connector. If I could weld I'd probably go the bung route. Worried about pesky leaks using the bolt in kits.

Decided to go with the AeroForce. Seems to pick up the trans temp via OBDII just fine. The night pic below is after couple laps around the block. Very cool little gauge. Need to figure out a good mounting solution.
