Lost Key Fob

I already lost one of the keyless fobs for my 2012 Explorer. I am curious about the cost of a replacement and also wondering if the aftermarket has equivalents available. Any ideas or inputs?

My dealer said they run about $200.

Costs more like $135. Then reprogram both keys per owner's manual.

Problem is you need two programmed keys to program another one. You only get two with the new car.

Best insurance I have found is buy a new OEM Blank as soon as possible and program as a 3rd key yourself. Total cost $75 for the OEM blank on E-bay.

Then if and when you loose one, you still have two keys to program another new one.

As long as you have only one key, it is a dealer job and costs accordingly.

It is true you cannot self program a new fob unless you have two others functioning. I recommend buying a blank one somewhere other than the dealer and then taking it with your car to the dealer for programming. I had to do this when I bought my Mustang and it only came with one fob.
