2002 ford explorer fuel gauge not working.

Fuel gauge stopped working... Hmm idk im thinking its the fuel pump or sumthing .. I read that having ur car or truk on while fueling can mess that up.. Is that true?... Because thats wat i did. My starter wasnt working at the time so i would fuel up while my truk was running.. I wasnt gonna turn it off and then what?.. Although my explorer is standard.. Anyways next day the gauge went crazy up and down for about two days. Thrn suddenly stopped working for good.. Also wen i got my truk the battery and temp gauge didnt move.. They stay in the middle... So idk wiring problem?... Iv tried checking the fuse box inside and under the hood.. Bad thing is, that it dsnt have like a diagram.. So i have no idea wat fuse or relay is for wat... Help please. Its real frustrating. Im moving outta town in about a month and i want to fix this. Dont want to b stranded in the middle of nowhere.
