Clicker doesn't work and key entry sets off alarm 2001 Sport Trac

I have a 2001 Sport Trac. Today when I got up to drive to class my electronic clicker didn't work. With any other car this wouldn't be a problem but with my Sport Trac, the clicker is the only way to get in without setting off the alarm. The key pad on the door doesn't work, and using the key itself to get in doesn't work either. Once the alarm goes off it kills the ignition. I went out and got a new battery for the clicker but that didn't do anything. I'm the second owner, I believe the alarm is factory installed and not after market, but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm a college student and I don't have any of my tools with me at school, and I am far away from any reputable repair shops, not that it would matter since I can't start the truck as is. I'm having the spare key and clicker sent to me, but that could take a while, any tips or advice on how to remedy this problem in the meantime? Thanks a lot.

Search for threads about finding keyless entry code; there's a few. Or is the keypad dead altogether? That would be more difficult but this is my first suggestion.

I have the correct code, but it doesn't do anything so I believe the keypad is completely dead as well.

Try disconnecting the battery for a while (be sure to leave the doors unlocked). Reconnect and try again. If the alarm isn't set when you lock the doors, you shouldn't have a problem using the key in the door.

That would be my next attempt and then I'd probably be waiting for the remote to arrive. Unless someone else here knows exactly how to solve it. I'm sure someone does.

Welcome aboard!!

I don't know much about the Sport Trac. Having said that, let me toss out an idea.

When I got my '02 XLT 4-Door back in Feb of '10, if the alarm was armed and I pressed a key on the keypad it would set off the alarm.

It turned out to be a broken ground wire in the boot between the driver door and the body. This is a known issue on the third gens.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge about the ST's will chime in.

Good luck with the fix. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
