True or False 94 Auto Trans question....
My auto transmission has 65k miles on it and has never had the fluid/filter changed or any service whatsoever.
There is a rumor that changing transmission fluid and filter at this late date could bring on problems. Does anyone have the facts on this to share??? Is it ever too late to service a working auto trans?? Thanks in advance. CD 1994 Explorer XLT 4DR Auto 4x4 __________________ THANKS in advance!! You are going to get a lot of differing views on this. Fresh fluid/filter is something that must be done periodically. There are different ways to do that. There is a flush(this is what some people get heated about doing to higher mileage cars) or you can drop the pan and change the filter and exchange some of the fluid that way.
I would not flush it personally. Last time I had that done my transmission acted very funny and at times iffy for a month or so. I would drop the pan and exchange that way. __________________ CB radio w/ dual whips, Front skidplate, 4 door leaf/aal/shackles/TT, 265/75/16 at's My ex

Our 94 "X" has 209,000 on it, BUT, it has also had mostly regular fluid and filter changes done. NEVER a "full flush". I think that the regular ( 15,000-18,000 mile ) filter/fluid change has kept that stupid A4 alive this long, all though, I do get tired of changing the fluid around 1-2 times a year. Still, it beats the cost of a re-build... ( poor little M5 sitting in the barn, feeling lonely under its' dust covering )

Bunk. Go ahead and drop the pan as stated above. Not changing the fluid will bring you trouble. If a little fresh fluid kills your tranny, it was dead already.
