Trailer.. No power for tailights
I have an 07 explorer v8 4wd with the 4 prong blade only. I lost power to the tailights. I checked with test light to confirm. I have power for turn and brake just not the tailights. Tailights on the vehicle still work and i found no mention of this fuse location in the manual. Where does this get its power from?
Thanks Jason |

Do you have power in the vehicle side of the 4-way plug? The brown wire on the trailer side plugs in opposite to the vehicle. I am not sure what the color is on the vehicle side. IF you do not have power on the vehicle side of the 4 way with just park lights on, then you may have a broken wire at the plug. The only fuse in the system is the one powering the vehicle. Skin the park light wire some where between the plug and the vehicle wiring harness and check for power....If you have power at the plug on the vehicle side, then skin the trailer park lights wire a few inches from the plug and check for power. If there is no power at that point you may have a broken wire on the trailer side of plug. Again no power-bad plug. If you have power a few inches from the plug, then your going to have to trace the brown wire to the nearest light. Personally would cut the 4 way off and go to a round plug.

trailer parking light fuse number 25 under driver side dashboard. 15 Amp. This is not the same fuse as the truck parking lamps, which i believe is # 26. Hope this helps you.

Ok obviously this was not a pressing issue for me. I dont pull trailer much and it is our extra vehicle thanks to gas prices. But I did need to get fixed!
I appreciate the help! I used check light to verify no power on either side of the plug. found out It was just a fuse and something i should have found in the book myself. Micheal liobi pointed me out to the fuse location for me that i overlooked in the book. I was looking for the word Trailer tail lamps. I should have spotted the park lamp listing instead.. Thanks again guys!! much appreciated!! |
