Whenever i open the door the light automatically turns on. How do i turn off this feature? Help please! I thought at first that this was caused by the autolamp delay but i was wrong.

I was just looking through the various threads and saw your post and that no one had replied. This has been brought up before and I believe the conclusion was that there is no way, short of removing the bulbs, to turn these lights off.

If you have children sleeping and do not wish to wake them, or are at a drive-in theater, or simply want the ability to control the lighting in your vehicle.

Interior Lights

I agree that it does seem strange that you can not control the interior lights. I can't recall not having this ability in any of my modern day vehicles. Not sure what the reasoning behind this is.

Maybe when you moved your new born that woke him or her up. just a thought. Every car I owned always had the interior lights come on with no ability to disable them, I am sure there are more owners who would want the lights to come on always,

If I'm not mistaken, my Highlanders had the ability to turn interior lights off.

nah, he would wake up when i opened the door...we started making sure we had a blanket covering the car seat before we opened the door to shield him from the light..... and all my previous cars had the option to turn the lights "off/door/on"

Every car I have ever owned, or ever been in (save late model Fords) all had the ability to control the interior lighting.

Like bluelion said, "off/door/on" switch to give the master control of his domain.

I hate this too. Thinking about putting some electrical tape over the back lights so my toddler doesn't wake up.

Hey everybody,

I’m sorry I didn’t see this when it was originally posted. No, this can’t be turned off.

I suggest submitting this to Social.Ford.com in the “YOUR IDEAS” section. Don’t forget to post the link here so others can rate and vote.

I also have noticed that the 2nd. row courtesy light have a low/high feature but the 3rd. row doesn't have it, only single... Also the 3rd. light doesn't have an off switch if you turn it on, only auto.

I think that we need more light in the 3rd. than the 2nd. because it will lit also the cargo area.

Have anybody replaced the 3rd. row light with the low/high 2nd. row feature???? Is it plug and play?????

Do you have the dual panel moonroof? I do and the two 2nd row lights, located above the rear doors,do not have a high/low switch.

None of the interior courtesy/reading lights can be turned off.

No i don't have moonroof. After i posted here i have read a lot and how you said, the courtesy lights can't be turned off and neither we can replace the 3rd. row courtesy with the 2nd. one.

Also read that the 2013 EX has a the 3rd. light modified covering more room so probably we must wait and see if we can replace or modify the 2011 light with the 2013.

I think that some members have replaced the interior lights with LED bulbs which give off more light. Maybe someone who did this will reply.

Yep but they did not change the 3RD row because it is solderd on the board.

if you think about it, all you would need to do is find the switch inside the door that turns the lights on when you open the door. Once you find that switch, add a separate switch in the circuit that can disable/enable the lights to turn on.

Seems simple enough but i havent checked my X to see if its possible.

If it is anything like my friends 2012 Edge, there is no apparent door switch. We think it might be integral with the door latching mechanism.

He and I were thinking along the same lines as you, but were stumped when we couldn't find a switch.

Still, if you can find a wiring diagram, you should be able to interrupt the circuit somewhere to get the desired results.
